Job Description

Your Impact:

As the Engineering Manager at Samuel Automation - Waterloo, you will lead all engineering functions, driving technical excellence, innovation, and the successful execution of projects. With direct responsibility over engineering strategy and project execution performance across all engineering disciplines, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and scalable solutions. In addition, you will champion standardization, lead performance management, and foster productive, efficient and collaborative team culture within a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment. The Engineering Manager serves as a key member of Waterloo’s management team.

What You’ll be Accountable for:

• Develop and execute the site’s engineering strategy aligned with business objectives.

• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary engineering team (mechanical, electrical, controls, software).

• Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement

• Oversee the design, development, and delivery of automation systems and engineering services.

• Establish and maintain engineering processes and best practices.

• Drive standardization and modularization of our engineered solutions.

• Promote adoption of new technologies, tools, and methodologies in engineering.

• Lead initiatives to improve engineering efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.

• Manage technical risk and ensure robust validation and testing procedures

• Collaborate with engineering managers and project management to ensure alignment on scope, timelines, and deliverables.

• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to engineering productivity and project success.

• Work closely with Sales, Operations, and Service teams to ensure seamless execution of project from concept to deployment.

• Support business development efforts by providing technical expertise and solution input.

• Ensure all engineering activities and designed solutions comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations.

Your Qualifications Include:

• Proficient in analyzing and deciphering intricate technical specifications and applications.

• Strong understanding of industrial automation systems (Robotics, Motion control, Design Standards, Controls Systems, etc.)

• Experience with system design, integration, and commissioning

• Problem-solving and decision-making under pressure

• Strategic thinking, Strong leadership and team development skills

• Excellent project management and organizational abilities

• Effective communication and stakeholder management

• Understanding of industry standards and safety regulations

• Practical experience with engineering software

Education, Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field)

• 10+ years of engineering experience in automation, systems integration, or related industry

• 5+ years in a leadership role managing engineering teams

• Proven track record of delivering complex automation projects

Special Requirements:

• Valid passport and driver’s license with ability to travel to customer sites domestically and internationally.

• Frequent presence on the shop floor and in engineering areas.

• Ability to walk, stand, and move through a manufacturing facility as needed.

• Comfortable working in a dynamic, evolving environment with competing priorities.

The expected compensation range for this position is $123,120-$169,290. This range includes base pay and target variable pay. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience. We also consider internal equity to ensure fair and consistent pay practices. This range reflects the expected full compensation range for the role; most offers will fall within the range and not at the maximum in order to allow for future growth
