Reporting to the Regional Pharmacy Manager - Drug Distribution Services, the Manager, Drug Distribution is responsible for the safe, effective and efficient provision of drug distribution services. The manager works collaboratively with other members of the WRHA Pharmacy Program’s Management Team to ensure that the compounding, preparation and delivery of medications to patient care units meets high-standards for quality and patient safety and is aligned with the strategic priorities of the Program.

The manager is responsible for the selection, training, discipline and evaluation of pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants, pharmacy technicians in training, and support staff with respect to expected performance and competencies and supports the operational, fiscal and strategic objectives of the WRHA Pharmacy Program.

Experience

  • Three (3) years’ experience as a Pharmacy Assistant or Pharmacy Technician is required.
  • Experience in a hospital pharmacy is preferred.
  • One (1) year related supervisory/management experience or equivalent education/training is preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Recognized or eligible to be recognized as a Pharmacy Technician by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM) is required.
  • Successful completion of a CCAPP Accredited Pharmacy Technician Certificate or completion of the program prescribed by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba for candidates who successfully complete a non-CCAPP Accredited Pharmacy Technician Certificate.
  • Completion of a management training program preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Pharmacy Technician Certificate.
  • Listed as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba.
  • Successful completion of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) entry-to-practice Pharmacy Technician certification examination (Part 1 – MCQ and Part II – OSPE).
  • Completion or eligible to complete the CPhM Pharmacy Technician Structured Practical Training Program and CPhM Pharmacy Technician Jurisprudence Examination.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Regional Pharmacy Program Pharmacy Technician competency assessments.
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Pharmacy Technicians or Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists, preferred.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication, facilitation, negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply collective agreements.
  • Education in management or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and human resources management.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Ability to utilize information technologies for communication, word processing, spreadsheet applications and other common needs.
  • Project management skills to plan, organize and coordinate multiple activities.
  • Knowledge of hospital pharmacy practice including computerized unit dose and cassette exchange systems, unit dose packaging equipment and intravenous admixture systems, and narcotic and controlled drug requirements.
  • Knowledge of regulations and acts governing the profession of Pharmacy in Manitoba.
  • Support the Philosophy/Mission/Goals and Objectives of the Pharmacy Program and the sites it services.
  • Discretion and confidentiality in all hospital/patient/resident related matters is maintained.
  • Fluency in the English language.
  • Maintain current competencies that underlie the main duties of a pharmacy technician.
  • Provide annually to their supervisor, a record of continuing education requirements to maintain their eligibility to be a pharmacy technician under the legislation of the Pharmaceutical Act and Regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Energy and stamina required including ability to manage stress and time pressures.
  • Physical demand associated with using a computer and other office equipment; moderate walking and minimal lifting.
  • May be required to travel to other sites.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
