How you will make an impact:

Opensignal is seeking a quantitative, technical, and collaborative leader to join the Data Operations team as Manager, Data Operations.

The Data Operations team is a critical component of Opensignal. The team ensures that our data is validated, our pipelines and deliverables are operating correctly, and our internal stakeholders and clients can trust the data products we deliver.

The Manager, Data Operations will lead people, processes, and hands-on technical work across core ETL workflows, automated client data feeds, data quality monitoring, metrics automation, dashboarding, alerting, and new product support. This person should be comfortable working with large and complex datasets, improving operational processes, and helping team members grow in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

Including, but not limited to:

  • Lead the development, maintenance, and monitoring of Opensignal proprietary data products, ETL processes, and automated client deliverables.
  • Own automated data feed workflows from requirements through production support, including SQL/query development, configuration updates, testing, scheduling, and delivery validation.
  • Design, build, and improve data workflows using SQL, Python, AWS, Airflow/MWAA, Redshift, Athena, SQL Server, and related internal tooling.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Client Analytics, and Data Operations stakeholders to translate business needs into reliable data workflows, clear delivery plans, and practical operational processes.
  • Support data quality monitoring and alerting, including automated metric checks, date freshness checks, Slack/Jira Service Management workflows, and operational response procedures.
  • Develop and maintain metrics stores, aggregate tables, automated reports, and dashboards that improve visibility into data quality, pipeline health, and operational performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across inbound data sources, internal transformation processes, automated feeds, dashboards, alerts, and client or product deliverables.
  • Create and maintain documentation, SOPs, playbooks, and reusable patterns for recurring workflows, production support, and technical implementations.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, prioritization, and support for Data Operations team members, ensuring clear objectives and accountability for individual and team outcomes.
  • Conduct regular one-to-ones, performance reviews, development planning, and mentoring to support team growth, motivation, inclusion, and technical excellence.

Knowledge & Skills

  • 4–6 years of experience in data operations, data engineering, business intelligence, or a related technical field
  • 2+ years managing or mentoring technical team members, including coaching, prioritisation, and performance management
  • Advanced SQL skills — writing, optimising, and troubleshooting complex queries across large datasets
  • Practical Python experience for data processing, automation, or operational tooling
  • Solid understanding of ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, data validation, and production pipelines
  • Experience with cloud data platforms and orchestration tools (e.g. AWS S3, Athena, Redshift, Airflow/MWAA)
  • Experience supporting automated client data deliverables (e.g. scheduled feeds, S3 outputs, FTP/SFTP, AP Is)
  • Experience with dashboarding or BI tools (e.g. Grafana, Tableau, Power BI)

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with operational alerting and incident response tooling (e.g. Jira Service Management, OpsGenie, Slack integrations)
  • Experience with Git-based workflows, code reviews, or CI/CD processes
  • Experience defining technical playbooks or operational standards for data teams
