Job Description

Permanent Position – Hybrid

Fasken is seeking a Manager, Data Analytics to act as a senior analytics leader and business partner within the Data Analytics & Engineering department. This role sits at the intersection of business strategy, analytics, and data governance.

You will proactively engage with business stakeholders to uncover opportunities, propose meaningful KPIs, deliver insights, and influence decision-making across the firm. This role requires strong technical depth, excellent communication skills, and the credibility to present to firm leadership while operating within strict governance and ethical constraints.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Business Partnership & Stakeholder Leadership

  • Act as the primary point of contact for business stakeholders on data, reporting, and analytical insights
  • Lead meetings and conversations with business partners to:
    • Explain analytical findings
    • Translate data into clear, actionable insights
    • Recommend KPIs aligned with firm and practice group objectives
  • Proactively identify opportunities and push insights to stakeholders
  • Build strong, trusted relationships across the firm and operate as a strategic advisor

Analytics, Reporting & Insights Delivery

  • Design, build, and maintain:
    • Executive and operational dashboards
    • Standard and ad hoc reports
    • Alerts and performance monitoring solutions
  • Prepare and present quarterly and ad hoc reports to senior leadership and firm committees
  • Ensure analytics solutions are well-documented, scalable, and aligned with firm standards
  • Support and guide analysts on best practices in analytics and storytelling
  • Lead special projects
  • Support periodic activities (Year end, Budgets, etc.)

Technical & Data Expertise

  • Demonstrate strong hands-on experience with Power BI, PowerBI Report Builder (Tableau experience also acceptable)
  • Use SQL and/or Python/Data frames to:
    • Understand and navigate the firm’s data schemas
    • Validate data accuracy
    • Support complex analytical use cases
    • Understand and or edit transformation Notebooks
  • Operate confidently within a data lake or lakehouse environment, navigating across multiple data domains and sources
  • Leverage Microsoft Copilot to analyze data, optimize queries and scripts, and build customized data agents to accelerate insight delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Work closely with data engineering to ensure analytics solutions are built on reliable, well-modeled data
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a wide variety of data sources, including structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
  • Ability to leverage both internal and external data sources to deliver high-value, data-driven insights that support firm decision-making.

Data Integrity, Governance & Ethics

  • Maintain a strong sense of data integrity, ensuring insights are accurate, defensible, and properly supported by data
  • Adhere strictly to governance, confidentiality, and ethical requirements (including ethical walls)
  • Serve as an ambassador for responsible and compliant data usage across the firm
  • Ensure reports and insights meet the firm’s standards for accuracy, clarity, and trustworthiness
  • Oversee and lead data governance initiatives, leveraging third-party tools and external data resources where appropriate to enhance data quality, compliance, and scalability.

Leadership & Special Projects

  • Lead complex and high-visibility special projects across the firm
  • Coordinate with data engineering, governance, and technology teams as needed
  • Identify when additional expertise or capacity is required and call in support appropriately
  • Influence without direct authority, leveraging collaboration and credibility

Communication & Collaboration

  • Present confidently to firm leadership and senior stakeholders
  • Communicate complex analytical concepts in plain, business-friendly language
  • Work effectively with teams distributed across multiple offices and time zones
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and continuous improvement

  • Business stakeholders view analytics as a strategic asset, not just a reporting function
  • KPIs and insights directly support firm and practice group goals
  • Leadership trusts analytics outputs due to strong data integrity and governance
  • Analytics work is timely, relevant, and consistently delivers value
  • Strong cross-team collaboration within a remote-first environment

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in math, economics, finance, accounting, statistics, engineering, computer science, CPA, MBA, or other quantitative field, or equivalent level of experience
  • 5-7+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, data engineering, consulting, or a related field
  • Relevant professional certifications are an asset (eg Microsoft)
  • Strong expertise in Power BI (Tableau acceptable)
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and/or Python (e.g. Pandas Dataframe).
  • Experience working with data lake or enterprise-scale data platforms (Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, AWS, Snowflake, Google Cloud, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of data integrity, validation, and governance principles
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • French is an asset
  • Knowledge of the professional services industry is an asset

Pay Range

$130,000 to $150,000 per annum. Pay range to be commensurate with experience.
