Opportunity

Reporting into the Senior Director, Credit Research, the Manager, Credit Research is responsible for supporting the sourcing, evaluation, execution, and ongoing management of credit investments across public markets on behalf of the pension fund. This position requires strong analytical capabilities, sound investment judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in a collaborative, institutional investment environment.

Managers across the Fixed Income team share many of the same characteristics. They are deeply skilled at performing fundamental analysis to understand and identify investment opportunities that will add value to the portfolios at AIMCo - Fixed Income is a consistent contributor to AIMCo’s total value-added strategy. Managers are also equally adept at presenting their recommendations and opinions with conviction. They excel at forging relationships, are highly collaborative and maintain a strong network of industry contacts, that include senior corporate management teams, bank sell side contacts and rating agencies. Credit Managers are also proficient at coaching and mentoring staff, at the Analyst and Senior Analyst level.

As Manager, Credit Research, you will contribute to the value-add of AIMCo by providing real-time credit research to Fixed Income Portfolio Managers across diverse industry sectors. You are considered an industry expert in your corporate sectors having a relative value view on issuers in a sector and between sectors. The ideal candidate will have had analytical exposure to numerous corporate sectors. Additionally, you will play a key role in creating recommendations while employing an internal AIMCo credit methodology for an asset class representing $45 billion and growing. Formulating credit strategies, opining on credit risk and evaluating new investment opportunities will fall within your purview.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting fundamental real-time credit research and maintaining current credit opinions

  • Regularly formulating proactive assessments and relative value conclusions

  • Leading the discussion relating to assigning internal Notional Ratings, not only for his/her universe, but for that of the whole Credit universe

  • Building key relationships with internal parties such as the Fixed Income portfolio managers, as well as with other AIMCo asset classes, while developing relationships with external parties such as banks’ credit contacts, corporates and other market participants

  • Upholding the integrity of credit processes, Notional Ratings and our internal credit portal

  • Working on wide-ranging credit-specific special projects such as ESG reporting, High Yield analyses and ad hoc requests from the Money Market team

  • Participating in special projects such as facilitating implementation of Artificial Intelligence into the Team’s workflow

  • Coaching and supporting the training of junior credit analysts to develop and enhance their credit research skills

  • Regular presentations to the Portfolio Managers and to the greater Fixed Income group

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Undergraduate degree required in Finance, Economics or related field, with a graduate degree preferred

  • CFA Designation a plus

  • Minimum of five to ten years of credit research experience; possessing deep expertise in financial analysis

  • Advanced written and verbal communication abilities to convey rationale and conviction

  • Strong investment judgement, analytical rigor and the ability to discover credit dislocations

  • Possesses awareness of ESG fundamentals and methodologies as they relate to credit research within fixed income

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to AIMCo’s core values of excellence, transparency, humility, integrity and collaboration, and inspiring the same in others

  • Understanding of basic risk parameters while willingness to embrace Aimco’s Risk framework
