The Construction Quality Manager is responsible for leading construction quality assurance and control activities across all power generation project sites, including Simple Cycle (SC), Combined Cycle (CCGT), and Combined Heat & Power (CHP) projects. This role ensures that construction practices, inspection requirements, erection and commissioning procedures, and constructability considerations meet Mitsubishi standards, industry codes, customer requirements, and regulatory expectations.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Construction Mechanical & Electrical, the Construction Quality Manager works in close partnership with site teams, engineering groups, suppliers, quality assurance professionals, and external contractors. The focus is on developing and implementing best practices, driving continuous improvement, reducing quality issues, and elevating performance standards in field operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Develop, improve, and audit on-site quality processes, including inspection records, Inspection Test Plans (ITP), sign-off documentation, checklists, and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) / escape logs.
  • Perform site walkdowns to verify compliance with documented procedures, installation requirements, and quality standards.
  • Assists with constructability reviews with customers, EPCs, and site teams to ensure compliance expectations are built into the site construction plan.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities for construction non-conformances, collaborating with engineering, suppliers, and site management.
  • Develop standardized best-practice procedures for equipment handling, system assembly, flange management, commissioning readiness, and site inspection protocols.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to integrate field lessons learned into design specifications, erection procedures, and commissioning guidelines.
  • Act as the construction quality liaison between site teams, engineering, Technical Field Advisor resources, supplier quality, and project management.
  • Issue and execute improvement initiatives across multiple business units (Engineering, Product Line Management, Quality, Construction & Commissioning, Supply Chain) and with external EPC contractors.
  • Provide on-site coaching and training to site personnel, TFAs, supervisors, and contractors on proper quality practices and procedural requirements.
  • Lead quality-focused readiness reviews for key project milestones such as FNTP, GT Delivery, First Fire, and COD.
  • Develop and maintain detailed quality reporting structures, including dashboards, escape tracking, KPIs, and improvement metrics which are aligned with the NGS KPIs.
  • Oversee the accuracy and completeness of quality-related turnover packages for commissioning and handover to the customer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution; 7–10 years of progressive QA/QC experience within power generation, EPC, industrial construction, or oil & gas environments.
  • Ability to analyze technical documentation, interpret engineering drawings and codes, and develop clear reports and procedures for diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Knowledge of database, project management, spreadsheet and word processing software, electronic mail, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, supporting a proactive safety culture.
  • Conduct regular quality and safety audits at project sites and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local construction codes and standards, including ASME, NEC, API, AWS, NERC, and internal quality requirements.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%.
