Job Description

Position:

Manager: Compliance and EthicsThe Manager: Compliance and Ethics is responsible for leading and embedding the South African risk, compliance and ethics programme by overseeing the enterprise risk management process, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements, strengthening ethical conduct, and driving a culture of accountability and responsible business practices through effective monitoring, incident management and reporting. The Manager: Compliance and Ethics will be a senior second-line role manager responsible for running the enterprise risk management (ERM) process and leading the compliance and ethics programme across the business. Providing independent oversight, challenge and support to management, ensuring that risks are identified and managed, compliance obligations are met, and ethical standards are upheld.

Minimum Requirements:

Experience:

  • 8–15 years practical experience in risk, compliance, ethics or governance roles
  • Experience in designing and implementing compliance or risk management frameworks
  • Experience in handling sensitive matters such as investigations or misconduct
  • Exposure to multi-entity or multi-jurisdiction environments is advantageous
  • Working knowledge of Labour Laws, POPIA and AI governance is advantageous

Education:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Business Management, Risk, Finance or related field.
  • Information Officer or POPIA-related certification advantageous.
  • Training in ethics investigations, governance or forensic investigations advantageous

Roles and Responsibilities:

Compliance Management

  • Develop and maintain the compliance framework aligned to applicable laws, regulations and standards.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive compliance obligations register.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and advise the business on implications and required actions.
  • Ensure compliance responsibilities are allocated and understood across the organisation.

Compliance Monitoring and remediation

  • Develop and implement a risk-based compliance monitoring plan.
  • Second-line compliance reviews and control effectiveness assessments.
  • Track, validate and report on remediation actions and overdue items and identify systemic issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the identification, escalation and management of compliance breaches and ethical misconduct.

Ethics Management, Whistleblowing and Investigations Governance

  • Maintain and embed ethics policies, drive ethics awareness, training and communication programmes.
  • Monitor ethics culture indicators and trends across the business.
  • Oversee the whistleblowing programme, ensuring independence, accessibility and confidentiality.
  • Maintain a central register of all reported cases and ensure proper tracking and closure.
  • Oversee investigation processes to ensure quality, consistency and defensibility.
  • Analyse trends and escalate material or systemic issues.

Enterprise Risk Management

  • Maintain the enterprise risk management framework and methodology.
  • Facilitate risk identification, assessment and review processes across business units.
  • Maintain the enterprise risk register and ensure clear risk ownership. Consolidate and analyse top risks and emerging risks at group level.
  • Prepare and present quarterly risk reports.
  • Embed risk management into strategic planning, budgeting and key business decisions.

Governance Reporting and Assurance Coordination

  • Prepare integrated risk, compliance and ethics reporting for audit and risk committee.
  • Provide clear, evidence-based insights into risks, incidents, compliance status and remediation.

  • Build strong relationships with business leaders to support practical implementation of frameworks; enable first-line management to take ownership of risk, compliance and ethics.
