Manager, Compensation

The opportunity

The Manager, Compensation is responsible for providing compensation expertise through program management, advisory support, analytics, governance, and operational excellence activities. This role partners with business leaders and HR Business Partners to provide consulting and analytical support on compensation programs, processes, systems, and frameworks.

The Manager serves as a compensation subject matter expert and is accountable for the effective administration, communication, continuous improvement, and governance of assigned compensation programs. Depending on area of ownership, you will have a primary area of focus while sharing common responsibility for stakeholder support, compensation consulting, operational excellence, and program execution. You will own compensation projection analytics, market analysis intelligence, governance/audit requirements, and compensation reporting activities.

Who you'll work with

You will develop strong working relationships with leaders, HRBPs, Finance, Payroll, HRIS, and other partners as well as maintain relationships with external vendors, consultants, and industry peers.

What you'll do

Compensation Advisory & Stakeholder Partnership

  • Partner with HR Business Partners, business leaders, and key stakeholders to provide compensation advice, guidance, and recommendations.

  • Interpret and apply compensation programs, salary administration practices, job evaluation methodology, and compensation policies.

  • Review compensation and job-related requests and develop recommendations supported by market data and business context.

  • Act as an escalation point for compensation-related inquiries from P&C Operations and other P&C teams.

  • Support development and delivery of communication, education, and change management activities related to compensation programs.

Program Management & Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end ownership of assigned compensation programs, including planning, implementation, administration, communication, governance, and continuous improvement.

  • Maintain and apply the job evaluation methodology and supports governance of job evaluation outcomes.

  • Manage project plans, stakeholder engagement, timelines, deliverables, and implementation activities.

  • Ensure successful execution of annual compensation and Total Rewards programs.

  • Coordinate activities across multiple stakeholders to ensure effective program delivery and business outcomes.

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve program effectiveness, employee experience, and operational efficiency.

Operational Excellence & Governance

  • Ensure compensation programs are administered accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with established policies and governance requirements.

  • Maintain controls, audit requirements, process documentation, and supporting governance materials.

  • Support data integrity, reporting accuracy, compliance, and process discipline across compensation activities.

  • Develop and maintain compensation-related tools, templates, reports, and documentation.

  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and service quality.

Strategy Contribution

  • Provide input into compensation goals, action plans, program enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Monitor compensation trends and emerging market practices and brings forward recommendations.

  • Contribute subject matter expertise to compensation, Total Rewards, and enterprise projects.

  • Support implementation of new programs, tools, systems, and processes.

Team & Culture Contribution

  • Coach and mentor colleagues and contributes to team capability development.

  • Lead workstreams and projects as required.

  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous learning across the Total Rewards team.

  • Set the tone for our culture and role models our values.

Working on our collaborative team, the successful candidate will bring particular focus to the following areas:

  • Lead performance management program communication, leader enablement and communications related to year-end activities.

  • Conduct market benchmarking, compensation analysis, and competitive market reviews.

  • Perform compensation modelling, forecasting, cost impact analysis, and scenario assessments.

  • Support annual budgeting, accruals, and compensation-related financial reporting activities.

  • Support pay equity administration, compensation governance activities, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Develop reports, dashboards, workforce insights, and compensation recommendations.

  • Monitor compensation trends, legislative developments, and market practices and provides recommendations on program effectiveness and competitiveness.

  • Support Director with executive, or Board, and reporting related to compensation programs.

What you'll need

  • Deep technical knowledge of compensation practices, processes, programs, and policies.

  • Strong knowledge of salary administration, incentive programs, job evaluation, market benchmarking, and compensation frameworks.

  • Knowledge of pay equity, compensation governance, and applicable compensation-related legislation.

  • Advanced analytical and quantitative skills, including strong proficiency in Excel and compensation analysis.

  • Knowledge of HR technology solutions, compensation administration systems, and reporting tools.

  • University degree in a numerically based discipline with a high level of mathematical competence

  • CPP and GRP designation an asset

  • Five to seven years of compensation experience, preferably within financial services or another complex professional environment.

  • Experience administering compensation programs and supporting annual compensation cycles.

  • Experience conducting compensation analysis, market benchmarking, modelling, forecasting, and reporting.

  • Experience managing projects and coordinating multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.

  • Experience working with HR systems, compensation technology solutions, and reporting platforms.

  • Global compensation experience considered an asset.

What we’re offering


Pay-for-performance
with base salary and annual incentive based on individual and enterprise performance.
The
Base Salary range for this level is as follows:
$105,000
- $155,000.
Individual
compensation and placement of this role in the range is based on different factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, demonstrated competencies, and internal equity as they relate to the role.
