Cloud Database Architect: Job Description

Responsible for designing and governing enterprise database architecture across cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/OCI). Drives modernization, migration strategy, and cost-performance optimization while ensuring scalability, security, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end database architecture for cloud & hybrid environments
• Lead large-scale database migration programs (on-prem → cloud)
• Define standards for:
• HA/DR architecture
• Backup & security policies
• Naming conventions & governance
• Evaluate and recommend database platforms:
• Azure SQL / AWS RDS / Managed Instances
• NoSQL (Cosmos DB, MongoDB)
• Architect multi-region DR solutions
• Optimize cost, performance, and scalability
• Define automation frameworks (Terraform, ARM templates)
• Collaborate with application, infra, and security teams
• Provide technical leadership & support to DBA team
• Participate in RFPs, solution design, and customer discussions

Technical Skills Required

• Azure SQL, Managed Instance, AWS RDS
• Always On AG (cross-region design)
• Networking (VNet, Subnets, Firewalls, Private endpoints)
• Storage & compute optimization
• Azure DMS, AWS DMS, native tools
• Terraform / ARM / CI-CD pipelines
• Encryption (TDE, Always Encrypted)
• IAM / RBAC
• Monitoring tools (Azure Monitor, CloudWatch)

Certifications:

Minimum of 7+ years of experience as a cloud architect with significant exposure to Azure/AWS cloud-based environments.
