Manager, Clinical Labs and Outreach Services

Introduction:

The division of Clinical labs and Outreach Health Services at The Aga Khan University Hospital is a dynamic service centre which serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that spreads across Pakistan. AKUH’s Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the need of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan.

The role oversees regional Outreach Health Services operations, including phlebotomy centers, Outreach Laboratories (administration only), and Medical Centers outside Karachi. It focuses on ensuring compliance with CAP/JCIA and regulatory standards, optimizing resources and operational performance, conducting audits, addressing gaps through corrective actions, and driving continuous improvement in service quality and patient/client satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be responsible to:

  • Develop & execute a comprehensive operational strategy for clinical labs, outreach services aligned with regional healthcare needs in compliance with organizational goals & standards.
  • Integrate clinical lab services, outreach operations, and medical center activities under a cohesive and efficient operational framework.
  • Monitor inventory levels, usage, and control of supplies across Outreach Phlebotomy Centers, Labs and Medical Centers based monthly workload.
  • Manage maintenance and readiness of all facilities, ensuring equipment and infrastructure are in good working condition.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen cost control, optimize turnaround time, monitor volumes and expenditures against budgets, improve throughput and occupancy rates, and enhance overall patient and provider experience.
  • Lead initiatives to improve efficiency, streamline service delivery, strengthen outreach visibility through stakeholder engagement and partnerships, and oversee outreach activities including specimen collection, health screening, wellness and CME events.
  • Improve patient satisfaction and experience for all the services in the assigned region.
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets, plan staffing and infrastructure as per market needs, and develop strategies aligned with organizational priorities and sustainability goals.
  • Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment and infrastructure, coordinate with vendors for repair and servicing, and conduct regular facility inspections to address equipment and asset needs.
  • Ensure compliance with CAP, JCIA and regulatory requirements through regular audits, and represent the region as the focal person for regulatory and legal matters where authorized.

Requirements:

The successful candidate should have:

  • A Masters’ degree from a reputed university; preferably in Business Administration or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in administrative and operational affairs of running a laboratory; preferably in a health care setting.
  • Command over technical and administrative aspects of Clinical Laboratory operations.
  • Ability to effectively prepare budgets, manage resources and monitor financial performance.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to develop Business Marketing Skills.
  • Ability to develop, maintain and strengthen partnership with stake holders across functions for the delivery of exemplary patient care services.
  • Excellent analytical skills to understand and solve complex problems, and ability to present with clarity to a wider audience.
  • Ability to make difficult decisions in a timely manner; positive attitude and ready to accept change.
  • Ability to cope-up with work pressure and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Ability to handle large teams’ cross functional teams including sales force.
