Peoplr is searching for a Manager & Chief Building
Engineer for our client in the commercial real estate industry.
As an
authority in mechanical concepts, building systems, and property maintenance, you
will lead the building engineering team members to ensure the highest level of
quality work and customer service. The Manager & Chief Building Engineer is
a full-time, regular position. The chosen candidate will work most of their
time in the field at various properties; the remainder will be spent in the
corporate office.


What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)


As a Manager & Chief Building Engineer, you will…


  • Oversee
    building operations and maintenance programs, including preventive and
    predictive maintenance, inspections, and system performance to ensure safety,
    reliability, and compliance with all regulations

  • Lead
    and develop the engineering team through hiring, training, performance
    management, and ongoing coaching to ensure high-quality service, operational
    consistency, and strong team performance

  • Manage
    work order systems and service delivery, ensuring timely completion of
    maintenance tasks, tracking performance metrics, and maintaining high tenant
    satisfaction

  • Collaborate
    with property management and stakeholders to align on operational priorities,
    budgets, capital planning, vendor management, and continuous improvement
    initiatives

  • Ensure
    readiness and response to operational needs, including emergency situations,
    hands-on maintenance support when required, inventory control, and
    implementation of safety and training programs

Required Qualifications


  • 7-10
    years of experience in commercial real estate, including experience with
    mechanical concepts and building systems such as HVAC, mechanical, electrical,
    plumbing and general building maintenance

  • Mechanical
    aptitude and proficiency demonstrated through several years’ experience as a
    maintenance technician or building engineer, ideally with progressive
    responsibilities/promotions

  • 2-3
    years of people-leadership experience, including hiring, training, and managing
    performance

  • Demonstrated
    experience planning and implementing preventative building maintenance programs

  • Commitment
    to remaining current on trends and technology in HVAC, fire/life safety,
    plumbing, and electrical

  • Proficiency
    with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

  • Ability
    to build trust and strong relationships with direct reports, colleagues and
    clients at all levels; can effectively collaborate across the organization to
    accomplish common goals

  • Highly
    customer service focused

  • Strong
    written and verbal communication skills; clear, concise, professional and
    polished

  • High
    school diploma


Preferred Qualifications


  • Proficiency
    with Angus CMMS

  • Bachelor’s
    degree
