Manager, Capital Projects

Location: Feversham, Ontario, with frequent travel across Canada

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent, On-Site

Salary: $180,000 per year + bonus

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Manager, Capital Projects to lead the planning and execution of industrial equipment installations, facility upgrades, plant modifications and capital projects across our Canadian operations.

This is a hands-on working manager role for someone who combines strong capital project leadership with practical mechanical and industrial experience. You will manage projects from initial site assessment and planning through procurement, installation, commissioning, operational handover and closeout, while remaining directly involved in the work being completed on the plant floor.

This is not a position focused solely on managing projects from an office. The successful candidate will work alongside millwrights, electricians, automation technicians, contractors, equipment suppliers and plant maintenance teams, participating directly in equipment installation, troubleshooting, testing and commissioning when appropriate.

The position is expected to be based at our Feversham, Ontario facility and requires frequent travel to our facilities across Canada, including extended stays at project locations during major installations, shutdowns and start-ups.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage capital projects from initial concept and site assessment through installation, commissioning, handover and closeout.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, cost estimates, schedules and implementation plans.
  • Lead and actively participate in the installation, relocation, replacement and modification of industrial equipment.
  • Work directly alongside skilled trades, contractors, equipment technicians and plant maintenance teams during project execution.
  • Coordinate equipment delivery, rigging, placement, mechanical and electrical connections, testing and start-up.
  • Apply practical mechanical knowledge to equipment troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and the resolution of installation and start-up issues.
  • Oversee commissioning and production start-up activities, remaining involved until equipment is operating safely and reliably.
  • Plan and coordinate plant shutdowns, equipment relocations and major installation activities.
  • Coordinate internal and external millwrights, electricians, automation technicians, fabricators, riggers and other specialized contractors.
  • Maintain accountability for project scope, cost, schedule, quality, safety and operational readiness.
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, purchase commitments, contractor costs and change orders.
  • Review completed work to ensure installations meet operational, maintenance, safety and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate the formal handover of completed projects to Operations and Maintenance, including documentation, training, spare parts and preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Travel regularly to company facilities across Canada to assess, plan and execute capital project work.
  • Support evening, overnight and weekend work when required during shutdowns, installations and start-ups.

What You Bring

  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, mechanical systems, skilled trades, equipment installation and/or manufacturing capital projects.
  • Demonstrated experience personally participating in industrial equipment installations, modifications, commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Previous experience as an Industrial Millwright, Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Manager, Mechanical Technologist, Equipment Installer or similar technical professional is strongly preferred.
  • A 433A Industrial Mechanic Millwright licence is a strong asset.
  • Strong practical knowledge of industrial machinery and mechanical systems, including conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pumps, compressors, hydraulics, pneumatics, piping, utilities and material-handling equipment.
  • Experience managing project scopes, budgets, schedules, contractors and change orders.
  • Experience coordinating skilled trades, contractors, vendors and equipment suppliers.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to read equipment drawings, layouts, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial safety, machine guarding and lockout/tagout requirements.
  • A practical, lead-from-the-front approach and willingness to work directly alongside project and plant teams.
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to travel frequently throughout Canada.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular business hours and remain at project locations when required by project schedules.

What We’re Looking For

  • You are someone who takes ownership from beginning to end. You are equally comfortable developing a project budget and schedule, challenging a vendor's recommendation, troubleshooting equipment on the plant floor and working alongside trades during a critical installation.
  • You bring strong mechanical judgment, practical problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Most importantly, you understand that successful capital projects do not end when equipment is installed. You stay engaged through commissioning, start-up and operational handover to ensure the project delivers the intended result.

Compensation & Work Environment

  • Salary: $180,000 per year
  • Bonus eligibility
  • Full-time, permanent position
  • On-site position, expected to be based in Feversham, Ontario
  • Frequent travel to company locations across Canada
  • Extended stays at project locations may be required during major installations, shutdowns and commissioning activities
