The T&D division of Toshiba International Corporation provides North American sales and marketing for Toshiba’s energy systems and solutions, a world leader in the design and manufacture of electrical transmission and distribution equipment. As a key member of the technical/product marketing team, the Business Development Manager must have prior product and technical marketing responsibility. This position is responsible for driving growth for Toshiba’s transmission and distribution business in the North America.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, emerging customer needs, and evolving market trends.
- Engage technically with customers to understand and discuss:
a) Required technical specifications, and b) Application-specific considerations (utility, industrial, renewable, etc.)
- Conduct customer presentations, proposals, and contract negotiations with prospective clients.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking engagements to expand market presence and professional connections.
- Prepare and deliver accurate sales reports, forecasts, and market insights to management.
- Develop, manage, and support Sales Representatives, contributing to the establishment of a strong regional sales structure.
Skills and Experience:
- 8-10 years sales experience, including three to five years of direct sales or sales management experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and breadth of related industry.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Open-minded and willing to challenge new opportunities.
Preferred Experience:
- Mid-level sales experience, ideally with strong existing contacts, and an ambition to help build and shape a growing sales organization.
- Robust network within the energy and industrial sectors, such as:
Utilities, Data centers, and Solar and renewable energy developers.
- Technical understanding of transmission and distribution (T&D) equipment: Power Transformers, Distribution Transformers, Voltage Regulators, Surge Arresters, Switchgears and Breakers.
- Familiarity with customer requirements related to ratings, performance, specifications, manufacturing standards, and reliability considerations.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and long-term customer relationships.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, multicultural environment.
- Open-minded, adaptable, and eager to pursue new business opportunities in a dynamic market.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and contributing to business growth
