Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. This role is an in‑office position based at our 130 Adelaide Street location. Our team is highly collaborative, and much of our work benefits from in‑person co‑creation, relationship‑building, and hands‑on partnership with leaders across the organization.
What will I be doing?
- Lead the planning and delivery of GO Bus service modifications required for Major Track Closures (MTCs), construction impacts, and major events.
- Develop replacement bus schedules, crew assignments, and vehicle plans to support safe, reliable, and efficient service delivery.
- Coordinate operational service plans with Rail Operations, Bus Operations, municipalities, and external transit agencies.
- Manage driver and fleet resource requirements to support planned and unplanned service changes.
- Monitor ridership, service performance, and operational impacts to recommend service adjustments and improvements.
- Support the development of contingency plans for rail disruptions, emergencies, and special event operations.
- Ensure effective utilisation of drivers, buses, and infrastructure while meeting customer service and budget objectives.
- Prepare operational analysis, resource requirements, and service recommendations for senior leadership and key stakeholders.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Knowledge of transportation and/or planning normally attained through completion of a 3-year community college program in Transportation Planning; or any combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrated 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the transportation / transit field, with demonstrated project management and technical analysis skills, which include: o Strong analytical, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as a team member and provide team leadership.
- Ability to work independently along with good organizational skills.
- Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of transit planning and service delivery is essential.
- Ability to integrate transit planning with corporate objectives, market research, and other transportation / land use planning.
- Experience with computerized transit scheduling software.
- Experience with HASTUS scheduling modules would be an asset
- Excellent analytical skills to manage planned service and to organize workforce and equipment.
- Ability to deal with employees in a unionized environment.
- Sound working knowledge of collective agreements and the bargaining process.
- Ability to project and substantiate the impact of service level changes on workforce, budget, and the availability of equipment.
