Position Overview:
The Manager of Board Relations and Special Projects is responsible for delivering on the priorities of the Office of the President & CEO in close coordination with the Senior Director and senior leadership. This includes but is not limited to: Board of Directors and President’s Advisory Council member outreach and relationship stewardship, committee and board meeting planning and content management, board governance support, organizational values/culture development and implementation, officewide event coordination, and ad hoc cross-functional projects. The Manager must be an effective communicator with experience in project management, as well as a track record of working with senior executives and/or high-level governing bodies. The Manager must also work well in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to multitask. The ideal candidate will possess meticulous attention to detail, problem solving abilities, a systems mindset, and exceptional organizational skills.
Highlighted Responsibilities:
- Manage scheduling, logistics, material preparation and drafting meeting minutes for meetings of the full Board, Board Governance and Executive committees, and the Advisory Council
- Assist with board member pipeline development and relationship management
- Maintain Board and Advisory Council contact information, required paperwork, and annual calendar
- Maintain repository for board governance documents in accordance with best practices and organizational policies
- Serve as project manager for the development of onboarding materials for new Board and Advisory Council members in coordination with relevant departments
- Create and manage content for the organization-wide intranet site for the Office of the President
- Assist with budget development and management for the Office of the President
- Manage cross-functional/organization-wide projects and initiatives, including support for internal communications systems and strategies
- Coordinate meetings, retreats, conferences, and other special events for the President’s office in conjunction with the Senior Director, Office of the President & CEO
- Develop talking points, emails, newsletters, board meeting materials, and other written communications for staff and Board/Advisory Council audiences
- Support the Senior Director in key performance indicator monitoring
- Coordinate closely with the CEO’s executive assistant and provide leave coverage as needed
- Undertake other duties as directed, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and initiative
QualificationsA Well-Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following:
- Proven experience working with senior executives, high-level donors, boards of directors, or governance bodies.
- Exceptional attention to detail and highly organized.
- Project management and/or event coordination experience.
- Excellent writing, research, and communication skills.
- Collaborative and team-oriented.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and strong systems knowledge, including technical calendar management, customer relationship management tools, and task-management software.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and anticipate needs.
- Ability to handle confidential matters with integrity.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with the CEO and senior leadership team, staff, board members, and advisory council members.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and strong decision-making capabilities, including in high-pressure environments.
- Adaptable and comfortable with new challenges from technology to personal preferences.
- A professional, polished demeanor with a sense of humor and warmth.

- Must live in the greater Washington, DC area and be able to commute to our DC office daily (4 days a week minimum) or as needed.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 4 or more years or relevant experience.
