Job Description

Title: Manager, Automation & Reporting - Automation

Location: London, United Kingdom or Barcelona, Spain

Reports to: Director, Automation & Reporting

The Role Dow Jones is seeking a Manager to lead the automation-focused group of our global Automation & Reporting team. In this role, you will oversee a team of highly skilled Technical Analysts dedicated to building innovative tools that automate complex business processes and manage high volumes of data across Dow Jones products.

As the lead for this group, you will drive the engineering and deployment of custom automation solutions, including Chrome extensions, web applications, automated workflows, and AI-integrated tools. You will be responsible for the full software development and automation lifecycle - from translating high-impact business bottlenecks into technical requirements to vetting the final architecture and efficacy of the team's code.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Backlog Management: Manage, mentor, and develop a diverse global team of analysts. Organize the team’s Agile backlog, set priorities, and allocate resources to meet tactical goals.
  • Automation Strategy & Technical Leadership: Drive innovation by proposing and vetting technical solutions, introducing automation best practices, and guiding the team toward scalable architectures. Lead technical discussions and serve as the primary problem solver to resolve project deadlocks.
  • Standards & Code Oversight: Ensure the team maintains high software development standards, writing clean, maintainable code and optimized queries for data handling.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop relationships across all leadership levels to identify business processes ripe for automation. Manage a portfolio of solutions, effectively communicating progress and blockers to sponsors, while operating as an individual contributor when needed to guarantee delivery.

Qualifications

  • Essential Experience: 5+ years of experience in process automation and software development, with deep, hands-on proficiency in Python and JavaScript for building robust applications and backend scripts.
  • Google Workspace Automation: Extensive experience leveraging Google APIs and Google Apps Script to automate complex business workflows, integrate cross-platform systems, and manipulate data seamlessly within the Google Workspace ecosystem.
  • AI Integration & Tooling: Proven track record of utilizing AI tools in two distinct capacities: as development accelerators (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude) to write and debug code efficiently, and by integrating AI models/APIs directly into technical solutions to solve complex business problems.
  • Advanced Technical Proficiency: Strong foundational knowledge of SQL for data handling, alongside practical experience in modern web application development, Chrome plugin creation, and cloud services (e.g., AWS, GCP).
  • Delivery & Communication: Familiarity with version control (Git) and delivering complex technical projects through Agile practices. Exceptional ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical senior leaders, maintaining a strict focus on quality and accuracy.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive Insurance Plans
  • Pension Plan
  • Meal Vouchers
  • Paid Time off
  • Employee Referral Program
  • Fitness Reimbursement Program
