Job Description

Some of what you will do:

The Operations Manager, Asset Protection is accountable for leading the implementation of Asset Protection programs and processes for new and renovated stores and facilities. They will partner with the Asset Protection team as well as other departments and vendors to ensure Asset Protection standards are achieved on time and on budget.

Specifically, You Will:

  • Lead and support Physical Inventory programs including cycle counts, physical inventory schedule and physical inventory process.
  • Develop and maintain Retail Standard Guides, Standard Operating Procedures and Policies that support all areas of the business.
  • Partner with Staples Professional and Fulfillment Centers to identify opportunities to minimize cargo loss.
  • Review Merchandise Protection regularly for new trends and recommend strategies to minimize inventory loss and maximize sales.
  • Ensure Asset Protection Website content is up to date.
  • Partner with Sr. AP Managers on the design of the physical security systems for renovated stores, incorporating vendor needs and specifics to achieve the optimal system in the newly designed space. Adapts plans as necessary. This includes CCTV, Alarm, EAS and other systems as required.
  • Oversee Merch Security Review of all planogram changes, new product introductions, and security required.
  • Responsible for merchandise security training, partnering with the merchandising team and store/facilities teams to ensure the appropriate training is in place for all security devices.
  • Accountable for budget related to asset protection processes and equipment. Review costs and budget allocated for projects to ensure alignment. Where overspends exist, partner with Sr. AP Managers, merchandising and other teams as required to rework plans in order to meet budget. Make recommendations for alternative protection, product placement or allocation, etc. specific to the situations that arise.
  • Create proposal for capital requests for any additional funds required; proactively considers impact on future allocation of funds based on current spend.
  • Manage contractors and vendors, following up on agreed upon timelines for deliveries, installations, etc. and updating them on any changes made.
  • Acts as a resource to store and facility teams to trouble shoot and resolve problems in equipment, reporting, logistics etc.
  • Following opening, completes a post-mortem to identify issues and resolutions for future projects, reviews and submits final budget.
  • Maintains contact with store and project teams post store opening to resolve outstanding deficiencies related to asset protection.
  • Manage security needs for special events and/or opening ceremonies.
  • Support and / or provide regular business updates on Key AP metrics to business partners, including GM, DM, FC Manager and AP Leadership. Updates will include highlights of what is working and insights as to what isn’t working with recommendations for improvement.
  • Support or lead development and modifications to AP analytics tools.

Some of what you need:

  • 5+ years related experience in an Asset Protection or related role.
  • Experience in construction projects an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in related field.
  • Asset Protection Certification preferred.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills, ability to relay information in a variety of mediums to different audiences.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple competing demands, ability to multi-task.
  • Strong ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong analysis and data management skills, ability to interpret data from a variety of sources.
  • Sense of urgency.
  • Ability to influence at different levels and across various departments across the organization.
  • Strong decision-making skills.

Physical demands/working conditions:

  • Office environment – Hybrid
  • This role involves 15% travel to stores and locations across Canada.
