Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking to add a Manager 2 Aeronautical Engineering to join our team either in El Segundo or Palmdale, CA The candidate should be a self-starter with familiarity working in an Integrated Product Team construct.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. There is no remote / hybrid / telework available for this position. Travel up to 25% may be required.

This is a hands-on leadership role encompassing both functional management (approx. 20%) and technical performance (approx. 80%) on a specific program. The 80% technical statement of work is aligned with analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems, and subsystems.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate new conceptual layouts, detailed engineering designs of structural composites, modifications, integration of advanced materials, and drawing reviews

  • Develop and oversee material selection and processing strategies — Define material specifications, qualification plans, and manufacturing/processing routes (metallurgy, composites, coatings, additive/subtractive processes) to meet structural, weight, durability, and certification requirements for aeronautical designs.

  • Drive cross functional implementation and continuous improvement — Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and test teams to integrate materials/process constraints into product development, resolve nonconformances, update process documentation (PFMEA, work instructions), and implement process improvements to reduce risk, cost, and lead time.

  • Performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications, and manufacturing plans in a team environment with other engineering organizations

  • Perform Workforce Planning in collaboration with the functional homeroom such as staffing, hiring, and onboarding

  • Champion positive change within the organization to achieve competitive advantage for the division and sector

  • Develop and improve personnel, organizational technical skills, and experience with aircraft subsystems

  • Work with Human Resources to mediate and resolve personnel issues

  • Provide Functional Management to approximately 15 direct reports, including career guidance, performance management, staffing, interviewing/onboarding, disciplinary actions, and direct engagement.

  • Coordinate with programs to ensure appropriate staffing/de-staffing actions are developed and executed relative to their section, and managing employee movement between programs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 9 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of related engineering experience

  • Knowledge of Materials & Process with demonstrated technical ownership experience in requirements analysis, architecture development, integration, test, and/or verification.

  • Familiarity with aerospace design and verification processes including requirements development and verification, preliminary and detailed design, MRP, Planning, Manufacturing, Procurement and Maintenance

  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance (with a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).

  • Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Access Program (SAP) access via a Program Access Request (PAR). This SAP/PAR must be obtained prior to commencement of employment and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain subsequent SAP PARs following commencement of employment to be able to completely support statement of work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current applicable Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

  • Active DoD Top Secret SCI clearance (with a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).

  • Prior experience in a lead role in a technical engineering capacity

  • Familiarity with model-based engineering

  • Experience with creation of system specifications, requirements traceability and verification.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Effective communication and presentation skills

  • High proficiency in technical problem solving.

Primary Level Salary Range: $161,100.00 - $241,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
