Northrop Grumman has an exciting opening for a Manager Advanced Technology 3 to join our team in Plymouth, MN.

Responsibilities of this role:

Lead and develop a team of chief engineers within the Design Engineering department. The Chief Engineering Team supports Northrop Grumman Armament System programs leading and directing the technical execution from concept generation, proposal, startup, development, qualification, and transition to production. The multi-disciplinary team is responsible for both single projects and portfolios across the BU requiring clear communication and engagement with all engineering functions, program management, support functions, and customers.

Specific responsibilities and desired experience include:

  • Maintain open communication amongst the team facilitating collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Lead a diverse team of multi-disciplinary engineering leaders in a dynamic product development environment.
  • Drive excellence in technical leadership.
  • Support the team with feedback and oversight.
  • Guide direct reports in the areas of career development and performance. Provide continual feedback and conduct quarterly connections on performance. Identify areas where team members need development and then provide training and development opportunities.
  • Manage the local Associate Chief Engineer program. Develop future talent through active identification, mentoring, and opportunity assignments to develop junior engineers into future leaders. Demonstrated recent track record of mentoring individuals and preparing them for success in new roles.
  • Collaborate with the Design Engineering Director to balance group staffing levels with anticipated workload meeting current and future program needs.
  • Superior communication skills across a broad spectrum of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success identifying and mitigating technical and programmatic risks.
  • Ability to act on ambiguous data through risk management and continuous evaluation.
  • Possess a wide spectrum of experience across the development lifecycle with working knowledge of broad range of engineering disciplines such as systems, electrical, mechanical, analysis, integration, test, guidance, navigation, control, specialty, and production engineering.
  • Practical experience with failure analysis investigations and recovery.
  • Experience with fast paced development and production.
  • Experience leading standard DoD program gate reviews such as System Requirement Review, System Functional Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, System Verification Review, and Production Readiness Review.
  • Provide direction and consultation for IP portfolio development and management.
  • Ability to understand the value of diverse technical concepts and work to align them with investments and technical roadmaps to identify potential product intercept(s).
  • Works closely with Army, Navy and Air Force Research Labs to ensure cooperative agreements are maintained to optimize NG’s position for future contracts opportunities.
  • Success in working with DoD customers, across Northrop Grumman, and prime contractors in business development, proposals, and program execution.
  • Plan, execute, and manage department budget.
  • Exhibits and models Northrop Grumman Values and Leadership Behaviors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • 11 years of Engineering experience
  • DoD Secret Security Clearance, or ability to obtain one
  • Team management and/or leadership experience of a technical team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Engineering
  • Department team leadership, supervisory, and/or people management experience.
  • Experience leading a team as a Chief Engineer.

Primary Level Salary Range: $184,300.00 - $276,500.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
