Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Accounting, Reporting & Financial Close
- Lead and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for India legal entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely completion of all close activities.
- Own the preparation, review, and finalization of accounting schedules, close working papers, statutory books support, and legal entity reporting deliverables.
- Ensure books of account are maintained in compliance with Indian GAAP, Companies Act requirements, internal accounting policies, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Review and validate period-end accounting entries, including accruals, provisions, prepayments, reclassifications, and other close-related adjustments.
- Oversee preparation and review of key balance sheet reconciliations, including bank reconciliations and other critical account schedules.
- Monitor reconciling items, aged balances, and open accounting issues, and drive timely resolution through effective follow-up and escalation.
- Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and provide meaningful commentary to support management review and reporting requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in close processes, documentation standards, reconciliation quality, and reporting timelines.
Tax, Regulatory & Statutory Compliance
- Manage India tax and regulatory compliance activities, including GST, TDS/withholding tax, corporate tax, and other applicable statutory requirements.
- Review tax schedules, reconciliations, data inputs, and supporting documentation required for returns, filings, assessments, audits, and regulatory submissions.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders, external consultants, tax advisors, and compliance partners to ensure accurate and timely completion of compliance deliverables.
- Oversee responses to tax notices, assessments, audits, and information requests, ensuring documentation is complete, accurate, and appropriately reviewed.
- Manage STPI and other export-related compliance requirements, including documentation, periodic reporting, and submission support, as applicable to India entities.
- Maintain strong oversight of compliance calendars and trackers to ensure all statutory and regulatory deadlines are monitored, communicated, and met.
- Identify potential compliance risks and work with relevant stakeholders to implement corrective actions and process improvements.
Audit, Controls & Compliance Support
- Lead the preparation and review of financial statements and related disclosures for India entities.
- Manage statutory audits, tax audits, group audits, and internal audits by coordinating audit schedules, reconciliations, supporting evidence, and management responses.
- Act as a key point of contact for auditors and internal teams, ensuring timely resolution of audit queries and completion of audit deliverables.
- Review audit documentation for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with accounting records and regulatory requirements.
- Support and strengthen internal financial controls by ensuring control activities are performed, documented, and evidenced appropriately.
- Track audit observations, control deficiencies, compliance action items, and remediation plans through timely closure.
- Partner with internal control, finance, legal, tax, and compliance teams to support governance and risk management requirements.
- Drive process discipline and ensure appropriate documentation is maintained for recurring accounting, audit, and compliance activities.
Stakeholder Management & Process Coordination
- Serve as a key finance partner for India entity accounting, reporting, audit, tax, and compliance matters.
- Work closely with auditors, tax advisors, external service providers, internal finance teams, legal, treasury, payroll, and business stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of deliverables.
- Provide oversight of activities performed by external providers, ensuring appropriate internal review, governance, escalation, and timely follow-through.
- Maintain and review compliance calendars, status trackers, process documentation, issue logs, and management reporting updates.
- Communicate proactively with stakeholders on deliverable status, risks, dependencies, open items, and required actions.
- Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, standardization, and scalability of India finance operations.
- Support implementation of new tools, systems, reporting processes, and policy changes impacting India accounting and compliance activities.
- Guide, coach, and support team members or external partners, as applicable, to ensure high-quality execution and timely delivery.
Experience Required
- Experienced finance and accounting professional with strong experience across accounting, audit, tax, compliance, financial reporting, and legal entity controllership.
- Hands-on experience managing legal entity accounting, month-end close, balance sheet reviews, financial reporting, and statutory books under Indian GAAP and the Companies Act.
- Strong practical knowledge of India tax and regulatory compliance requirements, including GST, TDS/withholding tax, corporate tax, STPI, and related filings or reporting obligations.
- Experience managing statutory audits, tax audits, group audits, internal audits, and control reviews, including audit planning, documentation, query management, and closure.
- Strong understanding of internal financial controls, compliance governance, risk management, and audit remediation tracking.
- Excellent analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to review financial data, identify issues, and drive resolution.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong review mindset with attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of deliverables.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with the ability to work effectively with financial systems, reporting tools, and collaboration platforms.
- Experience with Workiva and Workday Financials would be an added advantage.
- Prior experience working with external advisors, auditors, shared service teams, and cross-functional stakeholders is preferred.
- People management or team lead experience would be an added advantage.

Team Management & People Leadership
- Manage, guide, and support team members responsible for accounting, close, reconciliation, audit, tax, and compliance activities for India entities.
- Allocate responsibilities across the team, monitor workload, and ensure timely completion of assigned deliverables.
- Review work prepared by team members, including reconciliations, schedules, journal entries, audit support, compliance trackers, and financial reporting inputs.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and on-the-job guidance to help team members strengthen technical knowledge, process understanding, and ownership of deliverables.
- Set clear expectations, priorities, and timelines for the team, ensuring alignment with monthly close calendars, audit timelines, and compliance deadlines.
- Conduct regular check-ins to track progress, address roadblocks, resolve issues, and ensure quality execution.
- Support team development through knowledge sharing, process training, documentation, and cross-training across key finance activities.
- Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Identify skill gaps and training needs, and work with leadership to support development plans and performance improvement actions.
- Support performance management activities, including goal setting, progress reviews, feedback discussions, and year-end performance inputs.
- Act as an escalation point for complex accounting, reconciliation, audit, tax, and compliance matters handled by the team.
- Ensure appropriate backup planning, task coverage, and continuity for critical finance processes during peak periods, absences, and audit cycles.
- Encourage process standardization and automation within the team to improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and enhance control quality.
- Foster strong collaboration between team members, external service providers, auditors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
Education
- Chartered Accountant with 8+ years of relevant post-qualification experience, preferably in accounting, audit, tax, controllership, or financial reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Additional certifications or experience in internal controls, taxation, or financial systems would be an advantage.
