Job Description

The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the functions of the general accounting area including the preparation of financial statements, areas under the direct control of the Accounting Manager include the General Ledger, Inventory, Fixed Assets and Grants. The Accounting Manager is also responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial information that flows from the sub-modules and other systems and develops and maintains effective internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial information.

  • Supervises, directs, and reviews the work of the accounting staff coordinating monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities.

  • Manages and oversees the daily operations of the accounting department.

  • Develops and supervises the monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing calendar.

  • Ensures the accuracy of the data flow from the ERP sub modules and other systems.

  • Ensures compliance to IFRS and Sidra policies in managing all financial transactions.

  • Leads the preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, conduct in-depth analysis of financial results and provide commentaries for review.

  • Responsible for preparing the monthly financial reporting binder complete with Financial Statements and supporting schedules.

  • Establishes and maintains effective internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial information and the safeguard of Sidra’s assets.

  • Oversees the grant accounting functions and the special compliance requirements from donors.

  • Oversees and coordinates both the external and internal audits as a major point of contact for the various audit requirements and oversees the implementation of auditors’ recommendations.

  • Reviews the ERP functions as they relate to the various job functions and identifies opportunities for automation to achieve efficiencies.

  • Reviews current policies and procedures, Identifies gaps if any and provide recommendations for improvement.

  • Manages the team, creates development plans, and provides coaching and mentorship and conducts effective performance reviews.

  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

  • Adheres to and promotes Sidra’s Values

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – SELECTION CRITERIA

ESSENTIAL

PREFERRED

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, commerce or equivalent

Master’s degree

Experience

5+ years of experience with progressive responsibilities in relevant field

  • Working experience in a healthcare environment

  • 3+ years’ experience in an operational healthcare facility

Certification and Licensure

CPA, CCAB or equivalent

Job Specific Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated high level ability in financial accounting and reporting

  • Demonstrated ability in working with health data

  • Demonstrated skill in using report writing tools

  • Advance skills with ERP Systems

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

  • Fluency in written and spoken English

  • Use of Oracle ERP System

  • Healthcare financial accounting
