The Management Intern - SAILS Accessible Media Services assists with the daily coordination and administration of captioning and transcript accommodations for students registered with Student Accessibility and Inclusive Learning Services (SAILS). Working under the supervision of the Program Coordinator Senior - Accessible Media, the Management Intern supports the intake, assignment, tracking, quality review, and completion of captioning and transcript requests for instructional media, university-sponsored events, and other educational content.

This position serves a critical role in ensuring students with disabilities receive timely access to accessible media accommodations. The Management Intern collaborates with students, faculty, staff, vendors, and student employees to facilitate efficient service delivery while supporting compliance with university accessibility standards and applicable disability laws.

Management Intern positions collectively provide operational support for Accessible Media Services, ensuring continuity of operations, timely request processing, and consistent customer service across the university.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE Work location is primarily at the Tempe campus; however, incumbent may be required to travel to off-campus events and other ASU campuses to perform work driving their own vehicle. This is a 20 hour per week position, and may include some nights and weekends, with flexible days and hours based on programming needs. This Internship program is a short term-position of a 12-month experience or less. An additional one-year extension may be offered contingent upon an annual review.

Essential Duties:

Caption/ Transcript Services Coordination

  • Monitor and process incoming captioning/transcript requests submitted through the accessibility management system.

  • Review requests for completeness and identify required media files, links, and supporting documentation.

  • Assist with workload balancing and prioritization of requests based on accommodation needs and academic deadlines.

  • Coordinate assignment of captioning/transcript requests to approved vendors and internal staff.

  • Track request Progress and ensure timely completion of services.

  • Maintain communication with faculty, staff, and students regarding request status and timelines.

  • Escalate complex requests or service concerns to the Program Coordinator Senior as appropriate.

  • Ensure completed work meets departmental quality standards prior to release including verify & documenting accuracy, synchronization, speaker identification, punctuation, and formatting standards including conducting quality (assurance) reviews ..

  • Assist faculty with understanding submission requirements and accessibility expectations.

  • Assist with training and mentoring student workers assigned to Accessible Media Services including direct supervision of student employees.

  • Provide guidance on departmental procedures, documentation standards, and quality assurance expectations and accessibility standards including changes in laws impacting provision of services for students with disabilities.

  • Support on-going service improvement efforts through effective documentation and data management.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and accommodation information in accordance with FERPA and university policy.

  • Support adherence to accessibility standards, university policies, and departmental procedures.

  • Support other areas within Student Accessibility and EOSS as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree OR enrollment in a graduate degree program in Higher Education, Public Administration, Educational Technology, Disability Studies, Communication, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Graduate Student in a closely related field of study

  • Demonstrated organizational, communication, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.

  • Experience working in disability services, student affairs, accessibility services, educational technology, or a higher education environment.

  • Experience coordinating projects, workflows, or service operations.

  • Experience supervising, training, mentoring, or leading peers.

  • Familiarity with captioning, transcription, digital accessibility, or instructional media.

  • Experience utilizing database systems and reporting tools.

  • Knowledge of ADA, Section 504, Section 508, WCAG, and accessibility principles.

Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) is committed to enrolling all qualified students at Arizona State University and assisting them in their academic success. EOSS provides a broad range of services and support to students and prospective students ranging from outreach efforts with K-12 schools, orientation programs for new freshman, bridge programs to assist the transition to a university environment, and a wide variety of services, programs and activities for enrolled students.
