Management Accountant

The Management Accountant is responsible for analysing financial data, preparing reports, and supporting strategic decision-making across the business. This role involves monitoring financial performance and reporting on actuals, budgeting and forecasting to ensure alignment with business objectives. The Management Accountant works closely with operational teams and senior leaders to provide insights, improve cost efficiency, and maintain financial compliance.
Working from our Netherlands offices in either Leiden or Amsterdam, this role forms part of our collaborative global Management Accounting team, with the Management Accountants holding full accountability for the financial oversight of their assigned subsidiaries. This includes ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all incoming and outgoing transactions related to their subsidiary, in close coordination with colleagues across Finance, HR, Operations, and Contracts to name a few.
In addition to their individual responsibilities, the Management Accounting team operates cohesively to manage shared workloads, provide coverage during leave periods, and contribute to cross-country initiatives. This collaborative approach ensures consistency and alignment in financial reporting across the wider organisation.
On a typical day, this looks like...
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Analyse daily financial transactions to ensure accuracy and alignment with
- budgets.
- Prepare and present financial reports, including profit and loss statements,
- cash flow forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Investigate discrepancies between actual and expected performance,
- recommending corrective actions.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and update financial forecasts
- based on current business performance.
- Review departmental cost structures and identify opportunities for cost
- optimisation.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with senior managers, Finance colleagues, and cross-functional
- teams (e.g. HR, Operations) to gather data and provide financial insights.
- Liaise with external partners such as auditors, tax consultants, and banks to
- ensure compliance and support audits.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure timely submission of statutory financial statements and compliance
- with local regulations.
- Oversee tax filings, payroll processes, and statutory payments
- Manage intercompany billing, transfer pricing reviews, and fund transfers for
- operational continuity.
Operational Finance
- Coordinate end-to-end finance activities including AP, AR, GL, bank
- reconciliations, and fixed asset management.
- Monitor cash flow and manage intercompany collections and payments.
- Maintain and review Finance SOPs and participate in integration and process
- improvement initiatives.
To be truly effective you will…
Fully qualified accountant, preferably one of:
- RA (Register Accountant) or AA (Accountant-Administratieconsulent)
- Alternatively, an international qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, ACA) with relevant Dutch market experience
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience in a management accounting role in industry
- Experience working within or alongside Dutch statutory reporting and compliance requirements
- Strong understanding of Dutch financial reporting requirements (Dutch GAAP/RJ) and local compliance
- Experience in multinational and/or matrix environments, with cross-border reporting exposure
- Hands-on experience with Twinfield accounting software (essential), including general ledger, reconciliations, and reporting
- Exposure to VAT filings and Dutch tax compliance requirements
- Good understanding of Dutch tax framework, especially VAT (BTW)
- Language skills: English (highly proficient); Dutch (at least highly proficient)
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with a hands-on, pragmatic approach
- High level of accuracy and a control-oriented mindset
- Proven experience in monthly close, management reporting, and variance analysis
- Ability to business partner effectively with operations and non-finance stakeholders
- Strong Excel capability: experience with BI/reporting tools (e.g. Power BI) is advantageous
