Job Description

Performs mammographic examinations including special procedure examinations under the direction of the department supervisor and radiologist.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  1. High School graduate or equivalent.
  2. Graduate of an approved radiologic technology program.

Experience:

  1. Preference given to those with mammography and bone density experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Demonstrates the ability to function as a team member and to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with patients, staff members and physicians.

License/Certification/Registration:

  1. Registered with the ARRT-Mammography in good standing and maintain compliance with continuing education requirements.
  2. Maintains ACR requirements of 200 mammograms every two years and 15 CEC in mammography every three years.
  3. Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
  4. Registered with the ARRT in Bone Density preferred.

Receives general supervision from the Supervisor, Breast Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Performs patient care/technical duties in an accurate and timely fashion.
    1. Greets each patient in a pleasant manner.
    2. Verifies patient identification using two (2) identifiers: Full name and DOB.
    3. Prepares and positions patients for requested examination.
    4. Evaluates for correctness and modifies in Meditech if necessary.
    5. Assists the Radiologist during procedures.
    6. Operates digital mammography.
    7. Operates stereotactic biopsy equipment.
    8. Operates bone density machine.
    9. Knowledge of US units and ability to trouble shoot issues if needed.
    10. Prepares pharmaceuticals for use and properly labels syringes.
    11. Documents necessary information and “time out” process on requests and in Meditech.
    12. Performs other related technical and/or patient care duties as assigned.
    13. Keeps work area clean, orderly, and stocked.
    14. Cleans machines after each use according to manufacturer recommendation and leaves room ready for next patient.
    15. Completes daily duties assigned to tech rotation by end of shift.
    16. Enters necessary and correct information in to PenRad.
    17. Ensures all charges are taken and correct at the end of the shift.
    18. Knows how to handle and prepare specimens for Pathology.
    19. Sends instruments to Sterile Processing and completes necessary paperwork.
  2. Maintains inventory levels.
    1. Ensures proper level of inventory by:
      1. Monitoring levels of supplies and notifying QC technologist or supervisor when supplies are low.
    2. Reports equipment failures or problems to proper service engineer and QA/QC Mammographer.
    3. Complies with and performs assigned quality control activities accurately and timely.
    4. Communicates any equipment or staff problems to supervisor when necessary.
  3. Knows how to search PACS for patient images and send to radiologist workstation.
  4. Has understanding of departmental computer systems, including Meditech, PACS, and PenRad.
  5. Escorts patients within the department.
  6. Understands general office duties.
  7. Assists in scheduling of patients to optimize efficiency of department.
  8. Cooperates in efforts to coordinate the work activities with other technical staff.
  9. Assists with new and/or difficult setups.
  10. Participates in the departmental orientation and educational programs with other employees.
  11. Enforces the hospital and departmental policies daily and reports any discrepancies to supervisor.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
