Job Description

Provides diagnostic imaging services according to accepted standards and protocols and assures patient safety during procedures.

Responsibilities

General Diagnostic Procedures:

  • Performs all mammography examinations following policies and procedures established by the department.
  • Prepares and positions patients for mammograms.
  • Provides care and communication to patients before, during and after the procedure.
  • Uses all equipment properly and in a manner that minimizes hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.
  • Uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of all patients and staff.
  • Explains procedures and responds to questions appropriately.
  • Ensures that all images are clear and of good diagnostic quality, adjusting equipment as necessary.
  • Documents patient history, including any relevant information which might affect the interpretation of the mammogram.
  • Maintain and cleans the mammography equipment with the appropriate solutions.
  • Communicates any pertinent information with radiologists and other healthcare professionals as necessary.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the PAC’s System.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly environment.

Special Diagnostic Testing:

  • Demonstrates competency in performing all procedures and use of the equipment for Mammography, as appropriate and assigned.
  • Keeps dose as low as possible to achieve diagnostic exam.

Administrative:

  • Uses computer to access reports, medical history, prior imaging, etc.
  • Follows protocols for releasing of images and obtaining prior imaging studies.
  • Assists with administrative responsibilities of the department to include scheduling appointments, answering the phone, etc.
  • Performs all quality controls procedures weekly in the absence of the QC technologist.
  • Maintains licensing and continuing education credits.
  • Able to teach/aid students and new staff.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Radiology Technology training program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT)
  • Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent.
  • Certification in Mammography
  • 0-1 year of experience
  • Hospital experience preferred

Required Licensure/Certifications

REQUIRED LICENSE(S): • Radiographer NH (MIRT1060) OR Radiation Therapist NH (MIRT1057) OR Medical Imaging/Rad Ther - NH (MIRT1001) REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: • Radiologic Technologist - Mammography (RT - M) within 365 days
