Job Description

The Mammography Tech 3 arranges patients for Mammography examinations. Produces Mammography images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. Prevents patient from being exposed to unnecessary radiation. Ensures patient safety by using pre-established imaging protocols, and screenings for of all patients. Utilizes departmental policy to perform safe operation of equipment and all functions of the job. Provides complete pre and post education to patients and family. Assists with ACR, MSQA regulatory certifications. Able to evaluate competency level of others as preceptor. Leads and directs the work of others. Reports to Supervisor or Manager

  1. Clinical Skills
    1. Exhibits working knowledge of all equipment and procedures.
    2. Refers to physician's orders/chart for any special instructions that may be indicated.
    3. Routinely questions the patient before procedure to obtain patient history.
    4. Explains procedure completely to facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety.
    5. Performs all procedures in an efficient and timely manner without compromising quality or the mission statement.
    6. Examines the delivery of patient care and identifies problems and any need for improvements.
  2. Patient/General Safety
    1. Corrects and reports accidents, incidents and safety hazards. Completes Quantros reports as needed. Obtains necessary information for Risk Management
    2. Uses PPE (personal protective equipment) when appropriate.
    3. Is aware of potential chemical hazards and how to access MSDS information.
    4. Uses good body mechanics when moving patients.
    5. Adheres to infection control practices and ensures all staff members are following
  3. Equipment Maintenance
    1. Takes lead position in reporting any equipment failures or issues to minimize downtime.
    2. Has service performed monthly PM's on equipment.
    3. Ensures all diagnostic radiology equipment is maintained and serviced when indicated. Keep inventory of equipment and software at end of life.
    4. Creates service request that are needed for IS and plant operations.
  4. Documentation/Communication
    1. Documents all pertinent information, i.e., patient history, tech initials.
    2. Manages and Solves patient, personnel or referring physician complaints/issues. Communicates problems or concerns with management.
    3. Ensures we have an order for every patient done at the breast center.
    4. Maintains activity screen to ensure reports are sent to referring physicians in a timely manner.
    5. Oversees MagView system to ensure patients reports are properly completed.
    6. Keeps appropriate supervisor informed on reportable situations and department needs.
    7. Refers patients in need to financial counselor at the hospital.
  5. Critical Thinking
    1. Consistently coordinates and assesses workload to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency for self and technical staff.
    2. Coordinates employees schedule with all areas to prevent patient waiting.
    3. Always obtains information necessary for successful completion of duties; regularly confers with radiologists/technologists when needed.
    4. Assists in developing the skills of other staff members and assists with orientation of new employees in the radiology area.
    5. Prioritizes the needs of customers especially those most in need.
    6. Takes on other responsibilities when needed recognizing that customer satisfaction is everyone's job.
  6. Other duties as Assigned
    1. Is available to work a rotating schedule to ensure proper coverage of the Breast Center.
    2. Assist in other areas of the department as workload permits.
    3. Involved in planning and coordinating events promoting the breast center and raising patient awareness. Works with appropriate hospital team members for each event.
    4. Ensures that patients who do not return for exams are contacted in a timely manner to schedule their appointment.
    5. Follow up with patients who are leaving our breast center/analyze reasons, document and determine how to retain our patients.
    6. Ensures ACR and MQSA requirements are being met.
    7. Helps with all future planning and projects for the breast center.
    8. Consistently performs 12 organizational Service Standards focused on Values, Service, and Quality.
  • 5 years
  • Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technologist Program
  • Current State License , American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT (R) or Registry Eligible
  • Basic Life Support, BLS - HCP
