About the Role

We are seeking a strong, fit male Disability Support Worker to provide support to a 22-year-old male client in Blacktown NSW. This is a casual position. The client has a range of medical conditions and presents with complex behaviours, including:

  • Schizophrenia
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
  • Physical aggression
  • Absconding
  • Sexually inappropriate behaviours
  • Suicidal ideation

This role involves providing support in both hospital and community settings, helping the client access the community and promoting his independence and well-being. You will also need to manage challenging behaviours and provide supervision to ensure safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide community access support
  • Assist with managing physical aggression, property damage, sexually inappropriate behaviours, and suicidal ideation as required.
  • Provide support and supervision in hospital settings and community outings.
  • Ensure the client’s safety and promote his independence while managing complex behaviours.
  • Engage with the client in meaningful conversation, helping him to build rapport and feel supported.

About You

To succeed in this role, you should bring the following:

  • Experience supporting individuals with schizophrenia, brain injuries, or other complex behavioural issues.
  • Strong physical fitness and the ability to manage physically demanding situations.
  • Ability to effectively engage with the client through conversation and provide emotional support.
  • Experience managing challenging behaviours, including physical aggression, absconding, and suicidal ideation.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience, especially in high-pressure situations.
  • Experience in community access and assisting clients with daily living tasks.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to the client’s needs in unpredictable situations.

Essential Requirements

  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Employee Working With Children Check
  • Current First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009) certificates
  • Valid Australian Driver’s Licence and a reliable, comprehensively insured car
  • At least Certificate III in Disability, Individual Support, or an equivalent qualification
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Disability Support or similar roles
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment checks
