Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Major Works Tester in Charge who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia.
We are currently seeking a major works Tester in Charge to be responsible for the planning, control, execution, and certification of signalling testing and commissioning activities on major ETCS L2 project. This role ensures signalling system is tested safely, systematically, and in compliance with approved test plans, standards, and safe working requirements prior to entry into service.
Key accountabilities:
Supporting the T&C manager by leading signalling T&C activities for major work package.
Directing and supervising commissioning engineers to plan and execute T&C works.
Responsible for schedule management.
Ensure that the test and commissioning activities are executed in alignment with the Work, Health and Safety requirements of the company and the project.
Technical review of all test documentation to ensure test coverage is robust and comprehensive.
Ensuring the timely production of all Test Plans, Procedures and Reports at the work package level.
Supporting site interface management with the Client/Engineers/Third parties during the test and commissioning planning and execution phase.
Ensure test documentation complies with relevant standards.
Ensure test specifications and procedures align with project requirements
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar field or IRSE Tester in Charge License
10+ years' experience in a similar role in the Rail Signal industry with demonstrated capability and skills in:
Commissioning of large brownfield signalling projects
Strong leadership and decision‑making under pressure
Able to work within a team and adopt a proactive problem-solving approach
Rail, transportation, or engineering industry experience.
Must adhere to Hitachi Rail safety, compliance, and corporate values.
Operates in a dynamic, high‑demand delivery environment requiring resilience, adaptability, and strong stakeholder leadership.
High standard of safety awareness and professional integrity
Excellent technical judgement and attention to detail
Clear communication with operations and technical stakeholders
Ability to manage interfaces and competing priorities in major works delivery
