The Major Gifts Officer is accountable for expanding major gift opportunities through strategic donor development and account planning. In this role, the incumbent identifies, cultivates and solicits significant financial gifts from high net-worth, future-focused individuals, cultivating and managing a portfolio of 120+ donors and securing at least $600,000 annually to advance the CHS mission. Overall, the Major Gifts Officer contributes to CHS’s strategic objective of reimagining what HOME means by creating spaces where every child and family is supported and has access to the opportunities they need to pursue their dreams.

Primary Job Functions

1. Expand major gift opportunities through the identification, cultivation and solicitation of significant financial gifts from high net worth, future-focused individuals, cultivating and managing a portfolio of 120+ donors and securing at least $600,000 annually.

Major and Mega Gift Development & Growth (80%)

  • Manage a portfolio of 120+ high capacity, future-focused donors and qualified prospects, focusing on securing 6+ figure gifts.
  • Develop individualized cultivation strategies and maintain regular personal contact with donors and qualified prospects, including visits, calls and virtual meetings, working strategically to deepen commitment and secure large gifts.
  • Prepare and execute multi-year, investment-focused asks; set and meet annual targets for donor visits, solicitations, and revenue goals.
  • Manage D.W. Comstock Recognition Society donors and grow overall donor base for the Society.
  • Use the moves management process to increase the speed of donor solicitation, boost closed/won gifts, and achieve a minimum of 6:1 revenue to expense ratio.
  • Analyze giving trends and portfolio performance to refine strategies; use research tools to identify new prospects, qualify prospects, assess donor capacity and strengthen the pipeline.
  • Prepare donor proposals, presentation and gift agreements.

Regional Collaborations & Partnerships (10%)

  • Collaborate with the Development Team to grow opportunities and align major donor interests with organizational priorities.
  • Provide expertise, ongoing guidance, and support to collaborators on executing the best account strategies for large donors and CHS.

Program Administration & Reporting (10%)

  • Maintain compliance with CHS policies and practices regarding risk management, donation processing and financial controls.
  • Use the CRM to document within two business days, staying current with changes while following moves management policy and practices.
  • Ensure timely and personalized donor stewardship, acknowledgment, and impact reporting.

2. Contribute to a positive, engaging work environment.

  • Develop a strong knowledge base and stay current on job-related issues and trends.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, training and education, as well as the quality process.
  • Comply with CHS’s code of conduct, policies, procedures and other obligations.
  • Assist with training other team members and providing back up when necessary.
  • Pick up projects on the fly; perform other duties as assigned from time to time.

Job Qualifications

Education, Licenses & Certifications:

  • Required - Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, Sales, or related degree from accredited university. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • FL Drivers’ License within 30 days/hire, along with daily access to a reliable and insured vehicle.

Experience:

  • Required - Five plus years of experience in professional fundraising across multiple channels, with a focus on major gifts. Experience cultivating, establishing and maintaining relationships with high net worth individuals. Demonstrated success in closing donors and achieving financial goals in excess of $500,000.
  • Preferred –Experience in the use of fundraising software and tools.

Schedule Expectations

The incumbent will work a standard scheduled week, which may include weekends, holidays and evenings. The ability to work flexible hours is required to meet business needs. If working remotely, incumbent will be required to be available by telephone and email during specified hours. Travel will be on an as-needed basis to conduct business-related activities; may be required to work at a CHS location, when necessary
