Job Description

Posting number: 2026-00272

Department: COM SVCS - LIB - ADM / BKMOB

Job classification: Maintenance Worker, Community Services Seasonal

Posting type: Open

Categories: Library, Maintenance

Preferred Schedule
Approximately 25–30 hours per week, primarily afternoon/evening shifts. The ideal schedule is Monday–Friday (or Tuesday–Saturday) from about 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. but start/end times and days may be flexible depending on operational needs and scheduled library activities.

The Library Maintenance Worker plays an important role in creating a clean, safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for library visitors and staff. This position performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, custodial, cleaning, and groundskeeping duties to support the daily operation and appearance of the library and surrounding property.

Responsibilities include performing routine cleaning and custodial services, completing general building maintenance and minor repairs, maintaining grounds and outdoor areas, and helping ensure facilities and equipment remain in safe and proper working condition. The position requires a hands-on approach, attention to detail, and the ability to recognize and address maintenance needs efficiently.

The Maintenance Worker performs assigned duties with limited immediate supervision and is expected to manage daily responsibilities independently, prioritize tasks, and coordinate work around library programs, staff activities, and public use of the facility. Because much of the work takes place in an active public environment, the successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, dependability, good judgment, and a commitment to excellent service

The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in maintaining facilities, and understands that a clean and well-cared-for library contributes directly to a positive experience for everyone who walks through its doors.
