Summary

Performs day-to-day duties in support of Parks & Recreation facilities, properties, and programs. Assists the Facilities and Recreation Supervisors in their duties and supports the rental, maintenance and/or use and care of Division facilities, properties, and shared-use sites. Assists by providing support to a variety of recreational programs.

Examples of duties

• Provides support services and supervision of programs, including but not limited to open gym program, Market operations, etc.
• Provides daily routine custodial services at Community Market/City Armory facility as needed and scheduled.
• Provides service delivery (table setup, grounds and/or facility preparation, etc.) in conjunction with facility rental or usage, classes, meetings, programs, and/or other events.
• Performs routine heavy cleaning (buffing, mopping, pressure washing, etc.) as needed and scheduled.
• Routinely inspects facilities for cleanliness and for compliance with safety and maintenance standards.
• Reports to supervisor any major repairs needed within the facility.
• Completes small maintenance and repairs within the facility (e.g. painting, sanding, minor plumbing, leaf removal, etc.)
• Provides customer support at special events and facility rentals/use as needed.
• Conducts and/or participates in facility security roves and works with other City agencies to promote facility safety and security as necessary.
• Acts as a point of public contact during programs, facility use, community market programs, activities, special events, or other Parks & Recreation and Community Market supported activities.
• Performs a variety of tasks and duties during snow removal.
• Monitors and assists in the rental and use of Parks & Recreation managed (or shared) parks and facilities (including but not limited to Community Market, City Armory, Community Market parking area, Jefferson Street Park, and/or other sites).
• Directs facility support services, including set up and breakdown of departmental activities.
• Regular and punctual attendance is required.
• Assists the Facility Supervisor in the coordination and tracking of maintenance requests for facilities and properties.
• Assists the Facility Supervisor in the maintenance and custodial care of fleet vehicles as required.
• Performs simple building, park and/or trail maintenance as necessary in support of goals or special events.
• Empties trash containers and clean restrooms as necessary.
• Distributes and collects meeting support materials, athletic equipment, tools, and recreation supplies as necessary.
• Assists the Facility Supervisor in meeting safety protocols with other City agencies, such as: fire code requirements, capacity requirements, emergency services access, police reports and other items.
• Assists with maintenance of facilities to include minor carpentry, janitorial services and buildings/grounds maintenance tasks.
• Supports recreation and special event programming as required.
• Assists with Departmental preparation for the City auctions.
• Assists with Emergency Management Plan implementation as needed.
• Assists with snow and ice removal from walks and steps around recreation facilities.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor as required.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
• When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.

Qualifications

A High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.

Supplemental information

• Valid Virginia's Drivers License and acceptable driving record according to City driving criteria..
• CPR/General First-Aid Certification required within 6 months of date of hire.
