This position performs street maintenance and repair duties.

• Loads tools and equipment onto the truck; fills and loads water cooler.
• Assists in the repair of cave-ins on pipes and storm drains; excavates cave-ins; mixes cement; builds collars; backfills excavation site.
• Assists in laying pipe and in building manholes and boxes; wipes pipes to prevent leaks; mixes cement; assists in the laying of bricks.
• Drives flatbed truck as authorized.
• Flags traffic as necessary.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the stormwater system.
• Knowledge of the tools used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the stormwater system.
• Skill in problem-solving and decision-making.
• Skill in the use of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, and sledgehammers.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Qualifications

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Must possess a valid driver's license. This position is required to supervise state inmate's labor. Employee must pass the Department of Corrections three-day certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally six months but may be altered.

Supplemental information

The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, walking, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

• Pulling - use upper extremities to exert force, haul or tug.

The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
