El Puente is seeking a reliable and community-minded Maintenance Worker / Cleaner who will help support the daily operations and upkeep of the Bushwick Leadership Center.
This is an opportunity to contribute to a space that serves as a hub for youth development, community engagement, and leadership building. Through consistent care and attention to the facility, the Maintenance Worker / Cleaner will help ensure that the center remains clean, safe, welcoming, and prepared to support the young people, families, employees, and community members who utilize the space each day.
Working closely with site leadership and employees, this role will support the day-to-day functioning of the Bushwick Leadership Center by maintaining shared spaces, identifying facility needs, and helping create an environment that reflects El Puente's commitment to dignity, respect, and community care.

The Role
The Maintenance Worker will support the daily upkeep and operations of El Puente's Bushwick Leadership Center, helping ensure that the facility remains clean, functional, and prepared to support youth programming, employee operations, and community activities.
Working a 3-hour shift, five days per week, this role will play an important part in maintaining the physical environment of the center through routine cleaning, monitoring facility needs, and supporting basic operational tasks that contribute to the overall functionality of the site.
This role will work closely with the Program Director to help ensure that shared spaces remain welcoming, organized, and ready to support the diverse programs and activities that take place throughout the center.
In addition to maintaining cleanliness throughout the facility, this role will help identify maintenance concerns, support room readiness for programs and events, and contribute to the overall care of a community-centered space.
This is a hands-on role that is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, values consistency and reliability, and understands the importance of creating environments where young people and communities can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Cleaning & Upkeep
- Maintain the cleanliness of rooms such as offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas through sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting priority spaces.
- Clean and disinfect restroom facilities while ensuring that soap, toilet paper, and paper towel supplies remain stocked.
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout designated areas of the facility.
- Disinfect high-touch surfaces including tables, desks, door handles, railings, and light switches.
- Help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming entrances, exits, and access points throughout the center.
- Organize and maintain cleaning supplies and storage areas.
Facility Operations & Support
- Monitor the facility and report maintenance, repair, or safety concerns to site leadership.
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs or addressing minor facility needs, when appropriate.
- Provide occasional support with room setup, breakdown, or movement of supplies for programs and meetings.
- Respond to immediate cleaning-related concerns, such as spills or safety hazards that occur during scheduled shifts.
- Follow all health and safety procedures related to cleaning products, materials, and equipment.
- Work collaboratively with employees and leadership to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

- Previous experience in custodial, maintenance, cleaning, facilities, or related work preferred.

- A proactive approach to identifying and addressing facility needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with employees and leadership.

- A demonstrated connection to El Puente's mission and a genuine alignment with work rooted in community, dignity, and care.
Preferred

Qualifications
- Experience working in a school, community center, nonprofit, or youth-serving environment.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are preferred.
Location, Schedule, Salary and Benefits
This position is based at El Puente's Bushwick Leadership Center in Brooklyn, New York.
This is a part-time position scheduled for 15 hours per week, consisting of a 3-hour shift, five days per week. The hourly rate for this position is $19.00 per hour.
