Job Description

Maintenance Trainee – Alma

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn and apply fundamental industrial maintenance skills to safely install, maintain, and repair production, packaging, and facility equipment.
  • Perform basic inspections, lubrication tasks, repairs, and safety checks in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist experienced maintenance technicians with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromechanical repairs under direct supervision.
  • Participate in preventative maintenance (PM) activities and develop foundational troubleshooting skills.
  • Learn to properly identify equipment, components, and systems using drawings, manuals, and work instructions.
  • Accurately document completed work, findings, and followup needs using the CMMS system.
  • Follow all safety, food safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including lockout/tagout and PPE usage.
  • Work collaboratively with maintenance, operations, sanitation, utilities, and engineering teams to support reliable plant operation.
  • Progressively assume increased responsibility and technical independence as skills, experience, and qualifications are developed.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying equipment issues, improvement opportunities, and reliability concerns

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn industrial maintenance skills.
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment, including working around moving equipment and elevated platforms.
  • Ability to read and follow written work instructions, safety procedures, and basic work orders.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation, including lifting up to 50 pounds; twisting, bending, kneeling, and crawling on top of or under equipment; working in hot and cold environments; operating aerial lifts; using ladders; and working at heights.

Preferred

  • Vocational, technical, or apprenticeship coursework in industrial maintenance, manufacturing, mechanics, electromechanical technology, or related field.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing, mechanical, maintenance, or technical support roles.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance practices.
  • Exposure to CMMS systems or preventative maintenance programs.

Wage rate

$20.25-28.25
