Your Job

Georgia-Pacific Recycling is looking for a Maintenance Technician for our South Plainfield NJ, recycling facility! We rebale (densify) old-corrugated containers (OCC) for export markets.

OCC is delivered into the facility via 53’ Van trailers and rebaled into bales weighing approximately 2000 plus lbs. Material is processed on one to the largest balers within the Recycling Industry and then loaded onto export containers to achieve maximum shipping weight.


Salary:

  • Starting pay is negotiable depending on qualifications.
  • You will have the ability to increase your compensation based on skills and contribution to the overall performance of the plant.

Shift:

  • Only candidates who are flexible to be assigned to work any shift will be considered.
  • Candidates must be flexible and available to work all shifts as needed. This will include overtime and possibly some holidays and weekends as required.

What You Will Do

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial machinery
  • Install and align new equipment
  • Perform periodic maintenance routines including lubricating machine tools and equipment for improved reliability and up time
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs including labor hours and critical preventative maintenance findings
  • Work with the operations team to identify and prioritize maintenance needs
  • Help meet or exceed production and quality goals while optimizing equipment to reduce waste
  • Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures and while actively participating in our safety program
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment
  • Work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Four (4) years or more of experience working in a mechanical maintenance position within a manufacturing, industrial, or military environment
  • Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Experience using a cutting torch and welding with an arc welder
  • Experience troubleshooting issues with bearings, chains, sprockets, gearboxes, and conveyors


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience reading and understanding mechanical drawings
  • Experience reading and understanding electrical schematics
  • Bollegraaf Baler maintenance/repair experience
  • American Baler maintenance/repair experience
  • Experience with precision alignment of motors, couplings, bearings and pumps, and lubrication
  • Leadership experience in a manufacturing company with a focus on mechanical and reliability maintenance
  • Two (2) year technical degree or higher in Industrial Maintenance Technology or similar program


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks including climbing ladders and working at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment with dust, noise, heat, and cold conditions.
