Job Description

At UPP, we're proud to partner with universities across the UK to provide high-quality accommodation where students can live safely, focus on their studies and make the most of university life.

We're looking for a Maintenance Technician to join our onsite dedicated team in Plymouth, and in this hands-on role you'll help ensure our student residences are safe, well-maintained and operating efficiently, providing an excellent living experience for our residents.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will undertake a variety of planned and reactive maintenance tasks across our student accommodation portfolio.

This is a full time role, with a salary up to £33,476.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Responding to and resolving reactive maintenance requests, with a particular focus on plumbing and mechanical repairs.
  • Completing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities in line with scheduled requirements.
  • Carrying out statutory compliance checks and testing, including PAT testing, fire alarm testing and fire door inspections.
  • Ensuring accurate maintenance and compliance records are maintained.
  • Working closely with specialist contractors and supporting the coordination of their activities on site.
  • Identifying and reporting any health and safety concerns whilst promoting a safe working environment at all times.
  • Supporting colleagues across different trades and locations when required.
  • Participating in an on-call rota and being available to support key student arrival and departure periods.

We're looking for you to have previous experience in a maintenance, facilities or building services environment. You’ll be organised, customer-focused and take pride in delivering high-quality work.

Alongside this, you’ll have:

  • Experience carrying out plumbing and mechanical maintenance repairs.
  • Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • A flexible approach to work and willingness to support colleagues when needed.
  • A strong commitment to health and safety.

Most importantly, you'll enjoy working as part of a team and be passionate about delivering a positive experience to our student residents.

In return, we are offering a rewarding and varied role within a supportive team environment, alongside a competitive salary and excellent benefits package, including 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, pension scheme, life assurance, enhanced family leave policies, ongoing training and development opportunities, two paid volunteering or personal development days each year, cycle to Work scheme and access to a range of additional employee benefits.

UPP welcome all applications and recognise the value of having a diverse and inclusive culture, which reflects the communities we work with and has a positive impact on our people, our student residents, and our university partners.

Offers of employment are subject to satisfactory vetting, inclusive of employment referencing covering the past three years and you may be subject to additional vetting and barring checks to ensure your suitability for the role, which could include completing a basic DBS.

Join our friendly team and help make a positive difference to students living away from home in our accommodation.
