The Maintenance Technician (Millwright) is a critical member of the operations team, responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and compliance of processing and facility equipment within a highly regulated cannabis manufacturing environment. This role supports continuous production by installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical systems while adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and all regulatory and safety requirements.
Major Responsibilities / Duties:
• Equipment Installation & Commissioning:
Install, assemble, and commission processing and facility equipment (e.g., conveyors, pumps, HVAC, and packaging systems) in accordance with validated specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
Perform routine and corrective maintenance on production and facility equipment; diagnose mechanical issues and implement timely, effective repairs to minimize downtime in a controlled environment.
• Precision Alignment & Optimization:
Execute precision alignment, calibration, and balancing of mechanical systems to ensure optimal equipment performance, product quality, and operational efficiency.
• Fabrication & Equipment Modifications:
Perform welding and fabrication to support equipment upgrades, modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring all work meets food/pharma-grade standards.
• Technical Documentation & Compliance:
Interpret and work from blueprints, P&IDs, and technical manuals; complete all maintenance documentation in compliance with GDP and audit requirements.
• Preventive & Predictive Maintenance:
Execute and continuously improve preventive maintenance programs to enhance equipment reliability, reduce risk of contamination, and extend asset lifecycle.
• Regulatory & Safety Compliance:
Maintain strict adherence to health, safety, and regulatory standards, including sanitation, contamination control, and cannabis-specific compliance requirements; actively contribute to a strong safety-first culture.
• Inventory & Asset Tracking:
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, spare parts inventory, and equipment history within CMMS or equivalent systems.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Millwright & Mechanical Expertise:
Proven proficiency in equipment installation, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial and processing equipment.
• Fabrication & Sanitary Welding:
Experience with welding and fabrication, including food/cannabis-grade (sanitary) standards.
• Technical Interpretation:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and P&IDs in a production environment.
• Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement:
Strong analytical skills with a proactive approach to identifying root causes and implementing sustainable solutions.
• Safety & Quality Mindset:
Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant, and quality-focused work environment.
• Collaboration & Communication:
Effective communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with Operations, QA, and Facilities teams.
• Regulated Environment Expertise:
Strong understanding of GMP/GDP and experience working in regulated industries such as cannabis, pharmaceutical, or food manufacturing is an asset
