Job Description

The Opportunity:

Are you seeking an opportunity to demonstrate and further develop your Instrumentation skillset? This is an incredible opportunity where, as the Maintenance Technician, you will gain exposure and contribute to the safety and reliability of equipment within the Primary Upgrading area of the Horizon Oil Sands plant. In this position you will become the key technical resource directly supporting Upgrading Maintenance, Operations and Construction groups. You will be accountable for installing, isolating, troubleshooting, cleaning, inspecting, calibrating and maintaining field instrumentation and control systems throughout the facility.

  • Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta - Horizon Oil Sands site
  • Shift schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off, 12-hour shifts (Thursday Start)
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide expert technical assistance in diagnosing and resolving issues with all field instrumentation and control systems, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance
  • Collaborate closely with our Operations team to perform daily maintenance on all instrumentation-related equipment, guaranteeing that our systems function at peak efficiency
  • Diligently execute scheduled work orders on a daily basis, following the guidance of the Instrumentation Lead Hand, to maintain the integrity of our instrumentation systems
  • Initiate proactive measures to identify and address improvement opportunities within the instrumentation domain, contributing to the enhancement of equipment functionality and reliability
  • Ensure that all maintenance work is meticulously documented within our Computerized Maintenance Management System (Maximo), maintaining a comprehensive record of equipment maintenance history
  • Identify, document, and analyze recurring problems, playing a vital role in the development of strategies aimed at enhancing equipment reliability and preventing future issues

What You Bring to the Role:

  • 5+ years of related industry experience as an Instrumentation Technician
  • A Journeyman Certificate in Instrumentation and a Red Seal designation
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex instrumentation and control system issues to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency
  • Comfort working with various tools, equipment, and computerized systems used in instrumentation maintenance and control systems
  • The capability to adapt to changing work conditions, schedules, and priorities in a dynamic industrial environment
