Job Summary: The Maintenance Technician II is an intermediate multi-craft technician who performs all duties of Maintenance Technician I and independently completes routine preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective repairs within demonstrated qualifications. This role helps restore production equipment, resolve recurring problems, support facility maintenance, and develop less experienced technicians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform assigned preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, cleaning, lubrication, adjustments, and routine facility maintenance according to established procedures.
  • Inspect production equipment and facility systems; identify wear, damage, leaks, abnormal operation, and potential failures and report findings promptly.
  • Assist with maintenance and repair of conveyors, motors, bearings, belts, chains, sprockets, scales, packaging equipment, and other plant machinery within demonstrated competency.
  • Perform basic non-licensed facility maintenance, including lighting, plumbing, fixtures, carpentry, HVAC filter changes, and general building upkeep within authorization.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and basic meters safely; follow applicable equipment isolation and lockout/tagout procedures and never work beyond training or authorization.
  • Respond to production and facility maintenance requests, communicate equipment status and handoffs, and escalate unsafe conditions or work beyond current qualifications.
  • Accurately complete work orders, preventive maintenance checklists, service reports, and maintenance records in the designated system; assist with parts and tool inventory.
  • Maintain organized workspaces and coordinate with Production, Quality, Sanitation, and other departments to protect product and equipment during maintenance.
  • Independently diagnose and repair routine to moderately complex mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment failures within training, authorization, and applicable licensing requirements.
  • Interpret equipment manuals, mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics to identify faults, select appropriate corrective actions, and verify safe equipment operation.
  • Troubleshoot conveyors, motors, drives, sensors, control components, and pneumatic systems; use electrical test instruments and recognize when specialized support is needed.
  • Respond independently to production downtime events, prioritize assigned corrective maintenance, and communicate repair status and expected next steps.
  • Investigate recurring failures, document probable root causes, and recommend preventive or corrective measures.
  • Assist with equipment installation, changeovers, modifications, and upgrades under approved plans; perform basic fabrication and use shop equipment when trained and authorized.
  • Provide practical guidance and task support to Technician I employees as assigned; reinforce safe methods and accurate documentation.
  • Operate forklifts or other powered industrial trucks when required, after company training, evaluation, and authorization.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in all Maintenance Technician I responsibilities, including independent routine preventive maintenance and accurate work order completion.
  • Approximately 2-5 years of verifiable industrial, manufacturing, or comparable maintenance experience preferred, or equivalent demonstrated competency.
  • Intermediate mechanical and electrical troubleshooting; working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, conveyors, and related controls.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, equipment manuals, and work instructions.
  • Familiarity with PLC interfaces and basic fabrication/shop tools; relevant technical certifications preferred.
  • Manufacturing or production maintenance experience preferred; food manufacturing familiarity is a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain company-required powered industrial truck authorization.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, twist, reach, kneel, crouch, and crawl while working around operating equipment and facility systems.
  • Lift and move up to 50 pounds, with assistance or mechanical aids as appropriate.

  • Typically work a weekday schedule of approximately 40 hours, with occasional overtime or off-hours response based on operational needs.
  • Use forklifts, lifts, or other powered equipment only when job duties require it and applicable training, certification/evaluation, and company authorization have been completed.
