Job Description

This position is assigned to the Sewer Department

The Maintenance Technician I performs ordinary, labor-intensive tasks commonly related to water and sewer system construction and maintenance. Also assists operator in any way necessary to complete the job. Must be able to work on-call duty. Must be available to respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess a valid Class "C" Driver's License or higher.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License or be able to obtain valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's permit within 90 days of hire date and obtain Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within one year from hire date.
  • Must be able to obtain a Class I sewer collection license and a Class D water license within one year of hire date.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • One year of experience in Public Works preferred.
  • Ability to understand and abide by City of Conroe and Departmental policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to work on-call duty and respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.
  • Must be able to work as many hours as required to complete jobs.
  • Must be able to attend after hours classes to renew or obtain required certifications/licenses when necessary.
  • Ability to work as many hours needed to get the work assigned completed.
  • Must be able to lift weights up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to use all tools to accomplish the job in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to adapt to new technology, new methods and changing conditions.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be capable of reading, writing and communicating in English.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND WORK AIDES:

Shovels, pickaxes, various hand tools, air tools, boring tools, pumps, metal detectors, line locators, I-PAD

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

Ear and eye protection, boots, gloves, hard hat, self-contained breathing apparatus, atmospheric monitor

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is heavy and requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
