Job Description

With a focus on patient care, directly engage in maintaining plant operations, grounds maintenance, performing work orders, preventive maintenance duties, and regular assessment of facility equipment and structures. Maintenance Technician I will experience a wide array of technical, trade, and regulatory related functions in both a hospital and rural healthcare setting.Under the direct supervision and guidance of the facilities manager, the maintenance tech I executes the critical needs of the building systems, engaging in problem solving and collaboration on a regular basis between two campuses. As part of a team critical to the functionality of the physical environment, communication, ability to learn, and the desire for professional development are necessary. Maintenance Technician I will be responsible for keeping a clean, safe, well-maintained, and healthy environment throughout the facility and in offsite buildings. Under the direction of the facility manager, works with leadership across the organization to address needs as they may arise. Supports initiatives to build a strong and resilient Facilities Department for the continued care and service of the New London Hospital patient population. Participates in inter-departmental safety training both in-house and with the use of contracted vendors. This position is hands-on.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the facilities manager and/or designee:

  • Actively learns and implements requirements and protocols at the direction of the facilities manager or designee.
  • Performs Lock-Out Tag-Out per codes and hospital policy.
  • Performs typical maintenance tasks to support the main campus and satellite practices.
  • Detects and reports faulty operations, defective materials, and unusual conditions to the facilities manager or designee.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition, and follows all prescribed safety regulations.
  • Performs a variety of plumbing and electrical maintenance and carpentry functions as instructed.
  • Assists with projects as assigned.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and materials handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machinery and building or grounds, as assigned.
  • Complies with all safety regulations and policies in the performance of all duties.
  • Maintains outside grounds during winter conditions, to include plowing, shoveling, snow blowing, and salting and sanding of walkways and roads, as assigned.
  • Maintains outside grounds during non-winter conditions, to include landscaping, mowing, trimming, painting, and general spring and fall clean up, as assigned.
  • Ensures campus grounds are clean of debris and garbage to ensure the safety of customers and staff, as well as general positive appearance of the grounds.
  • Assists with hospital related functions on and off campus, as requested. (i.e. function set-up and break down).
  • Engage with contracted security vendor, building security and systems, (nurse) call systems, and other contracts as required or assigned by the facilities manager or designee.
  • Works with facilities team to ensure succession planning within the department through development and cross-training initiatives as assigned by the facilities manager or designee.
  • Assesses assigned daily work load and creates a work plan with facilities manager to provide necessary coverage throughout the organization.
  • Evaluates efficiency of the department and provides feedback to maximize the department’s productivity.
  • Collaborates with facilities manager and team members to achieve desired goals.
  • Ensures adherence to all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures the facility is clean and in good repair.
  • Responds to customer concerns and complaints.
  • Assists department with managing equipment maintenance and planning for replacements or upgrades as instructed.
  • Attends project and work planning meetings as assigned.
  • Ensures that federal, state, local, and departmental standards and safety are maintained in assigned areas. Performs safety quality assurance checks.
  • Checks all equipment in assigned areas to ensure it is in proper working order. Notifies facilities manager or service representative of needed repairs. Schedules repairs as assigned by facilities manager.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Trade school preferred.
  • 1 year related experience in a similar setting. Healthcare environment preferred.
