Job Description

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to support a highly specialised precision manufacturing facility producing screw compressor rotors and casings. This role is focused on maintaining, improving and optimising the reliability, availability and performance of a wide range of CNC machine tools and associated manufacturing equipment.

Working within a world-class manufacturing environment, you will play a key role in ensuring equipment consistently achieves the levels of precision, repeatability and performance required to support high-quality production. The position requires a strong background in both mechanical and electrical maintenance, along with a proactive approach to fault finding, reliability improvement and preventative maintenance activities.

About Us

Howden and Chart Industries are now part of Baker Hughes, a leading energy technology company serving customers across the energy and industrial sectors worldwide.

For more than 165 years, Howden has been at the forefront of engineering innovation, delivering mission-critical air and gas handling solutions to customers around the globe. Combined with Chart's expertise in process technologies and cryogenic equipment, we are helping customers solve some of the world's most complex energy and industrial challenges.

Our precision manufacturing facility produces highly engineered screw compressor rotors and casings that play a critical role in industrial applications worldwide. Operating within a world-class manufacturing environment, we combine advanced CNC machining technologies, engineering expertise and a strong continuous improvement culture to deliver exceptional quality, precision and reliability for our customers.

As part of Baker Hughes, our manufacturing teams are central to driving operational excellence, maintaining industry-leading quality standards and supporting the continued growth of a global engineering organisation. This creates an exciting opportunity for skilled maintenance professionals to work with advanced manufacturing technologies while contributing to the ongoing performance and success of a highly specialised operation.

What You Will Do

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs and continuous improvement activities across a diverse range of CNC machine tools and manufacturing equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems to minimise downtime and maximise machine performance.
  • Support the maintenance and optimisation of high-value manufacturing equipment, including horizontal and vertical machining centres, mill-turn machines, grinding machines, thread milling equipment and dynamic balancing machines.
  • Troubleshoot and repair critical machine components such as spindle systems, servo drives, axis drives, bearings, lubrication systems, feedback devices and machine control systems.
  • Monitor machine condition and performance, identifying opportunities to improve reliability, availability and overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Perform machine inspections, alignment checks and condition monitoring activities to maintain machining accuracy and product quality.
  • Work closely with production and engineering teams to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently and to the required precision standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on maintenance best practice, machine reliability and manufacturing performance.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in accordance with safety, quality and environmental standards.

What Do You Bring?

  • Proven experience in a maintenance role within a precision engineering, machine tool, aerospace, power generation, rotating equipment or similarly demanding manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance skills, ideally gained supporting CNC machine tools or other complex manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing faults across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Understanding of CNC machine tool operation and the factors that influence machining accuracy, repeatability and overall performance.
  • Knowledge of spindle systems, servo drives, axis drives, bearings, feedback devices, lubrication systems and machine control technologies.
  • Practical understanding of machine geometry, alignment and precision motion systems.
  • Experience delivering planned preventative maintenance, condition monitoring and reliability improvement programmes.
  • Ability to perform structured root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and respond effectively to equipment issues.
  • A proactive approach to maintenance, with a focus on improving machine performance rather than simply repairing failures.
  • Relevant engineering qualifications in mechanical, electrical or multi-skilled maintenance disciplines are desirable.

You'll be someone who understands not only how to repair equipment when it fails, but how to maintain and improve machine performance to consistently deliver the precision, reliability and repeatability required within an advanced manufacturing environment.
