Job Description

Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for ensuring plant equipment and facilities

operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with operating, quality, and regulatory

standards. This role performs troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on

manufacturing, packaging, and facility systems while supporting continuous improvement

initiatives and maintaining GMP and safety compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, installation, and preventive maintenance on plant

equipment, machinery, and facilities.

  • Maintain manufacturing, building, packaging, and utility systems, including

compressed air, HVAC, boilers, chillers, and plumbing.

  • Identify, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing equipment

deficiencies throughout the plant.

  • Perform minor facility repairs, including plumbing, painting, carpentry, fabrication

(forming and welding), and general maintenance tasks.

  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all plant equipment.
  • Source, identify, and order replacement parts as required.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Perform all work in compliance with GMPs, food safety standards, and safe work

practices.

  • Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety procedures

at all times.

  • Support compliance with FDA and GMP-regulated manufacturing requirements.
  • Exercise sound judgment when adjusting or repairing equipment to ensure safe

operation and product quality.

Communication & Documentation

  • Communicate maintenance activities, issues, and status updates with the Plant

Manager and maintenance leadership.

  • Complete required maintenance documentation and daily logs in accordance with

SOPs.

  • Assist plant management with equipment specifications and fabrication planning

as needed.

Continuous Improvement & Support

  • Assist with initiatives to improve equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, and

plant performance.

  • Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and recurring issues.
  • Provide on-call support per department procedures, including weekends, overtime,

and emergency response as required.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Experience in a GMP and/or FDA-regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience in a dairy processing or food manufacturing plant strongly preferred.
  • Electrical certification is a plus.

Technical Knowledge

  • Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and general mechanical and plumbing

systems.

  • Working knowledge of electrical circuits and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of chiller and boiler systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment schematics, hydraulic, and mechanical

drawings.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis on equipment failures.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely.
  • Effective written communication skills for documentation and reporting.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain professional working relationships.
  • Reliable attendance and schedule flexibility required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the

workday.

  • Frequently lift and move items weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to perform maintenance tasks safely

and accurately.

  • Ability to perform repetitive motions and work in confined spaces as required.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration,

fumes, airborne particles, and loud noise.

  • Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures and industrial conditions.
