Job Description

The Maintenance Technician troubleshoots electrical and electronic equipment, mechanical, and process equipment making repairs as necessary and performs various diagnostics on production equipment. This position also assists in the maintenance of the building/facility, equipment and machinery including, building lighting systems, production lines and overall facility appearance.

  • Responsible for performing duties in a safe and conscientious manner, following all procedures and policies established for the plant and calling attention to any unsafe acts observed in the work of others.
  • Responsible that all permits are approved & lockouts are in place before beginning the work.
  • Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel whether individually or in a team environment and especially must be able to interface and communicate with operators to assist with repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Work with specialists and engineers.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical/electronic components including input/output networks, variable speed drives, AC/DC drives, AC/DC motors, gages, and utilize test equipment for these components.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs process control equipment, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic equipment.
  • Maintains mechanical drive components, i.e., gearboxes, bearings, rolls, gears, sprockets, chains, belts, and other drive hardware including proper alignment of drive components.
  • Ensure proper lubrication of components.
  • Execute preventive maintenance functions as directed. (Strong Emphasis on preventive maintenance).
  • Ensure that all of the work follows plant policies, state, and local building codes.
  • Monitors and coordinates maintenance work with plant operations and production schedules.
  • Expedites repair of critical equipment as breakdowns or failures occur.
  • Fully participates continuous improvement.
  • Performs other work as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Preferring a certificate, diploma, or degree in industrial electronics or equivalent in a technical field is required.
  • 3-5 years of proven experience in electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic fields are required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas.
  • Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC).
  • A thorough knowledge of electrical/ electronic components and equipment including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
  • Mechanical drive component installation, replacement, and alignment.
  • High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required.
  • Basic math includes working with numbers, angles and shapes, and areas and volumes.
  • Basic components of blueprints include scales, symbols, and dimensions.
  • Basic concepts of electricity, including voltage, current, resistance, Ohm's Law, types and characteristics of circuits, transformers, and capacitors.
  • Understanding plant processes; how activity on the floor affects inventory accuracy and financial performance.
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working with a Computer Managed Maintenance System (CMMS).

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent work experience as a Multi-craft Maintenance Technician, Industrial Electrician or Mechanical Maintenance Technician.
  • The preferred candidate will have a two-year technical degree in Mechatronics.
  • Experience and training in PLC programming.
