Job Description

CHT Care Homes is a trusted, not-for-profit organisation with over 60 years of experience supporting older New Zealanders. With 23 homes across the North Island, we’re proudly values-led—centred on care, compassion, comfort, companionship and connectedness.
We’re looking for a Maintenance Superstar to support two of our care homes, CHT St Johns in Epsom and CHT Royal Oak. No two days will be the same — every day will bring new challenges, learning opportunities and the chance to make a real difference. With a company car, tools, laptop, mobile phone and ongoing learning and development, we’ll give you everything you need to succeed and grow in the role.
What you will be doing:
• Carry out emergency, routine, and preventative maintenance on buildings, plant, and equipment
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency call-outs
• Inspect, repair, test, and maintain medical and mobility equipment (beds, hoists, wheelchairs, air mattresses, commodes, sensors, recliners, etc.)
• Conduct safety, temperature, and compliance checks to ensure resident wellbeing
• Perform basic gardening and grounds maintenance (lawns, hedges, pathways)
• Identify hazards and ensure health and safety standards are maintained
• Complete required documentation and compliance reporting
• Liaise with Carehome Managers, Maintenance Manager, and external service providers
• Participate in on-call roster, team meetings, and health & safety initiatives
• Support other Carehomes and carry out additional duties as required

What we are looking for::
• Previous maintenance or handyperson experience desirable (but not essential)
• Able to work independently with a strong eye for detail
• Physically fit and capable of hands-on work
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
• Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Comfortable using technology and completing paperwork
• Customer-focused with the ability to relate to residents, staff, and families
• Understanding of the needs of residents in aged care, including dementia care
• Full NZ driver’s licence (manual driving ability required)
• NZ citizen, resident, or valid NZ work visa
• Positive, “can-do” attitude and strong work ethic

We provide :
• Company vehicle
• Tools, phone, and laptop provided
• Uniform and safety footwear supplied
• On call allowance – if required

Benefits of working at CHT
• Long service leave and recognition for your commitment
• An annual shoe voucher—because comfort matters
• Ongoing training, development, and leadership opportunities
• Wellbeing initiatives and EAP support
• The reassurance of working for a not-for-profit that reinvests in its people, care homes, and resident experience
If you’re looking for purposeful caregiving work in a beautiful location—and want to be part of a supportive, values-driven team—this is the place for you.
Join us at CHT and bring comfort, care, and connection to our residents every day
