Maintenance Technician

Non- Exempt

Reports to: Operations Manager

Location: 1919 Jacintoport Blvd Houston, Texas 77015

The Maintenance Technician is a key role responsible for the hands-on execution of maintenance activities across the facility. Their primary function is to ensure that all physical assets, equipment, and systems remain in excellent working conditions to support continuous operation. This involves performing routine preventive maintenance and executing emergency repairs with a high degree of technical precision. The technician is accountable for adhering to rigorous safety and quality standards, managing their assigned tools and inventory, and providing expert troubleshooting for complex technical issues. By ensuring equipment reliability, this role is essential for minimizing downtime and maximizing the longevity of company assets.

Knowledge of:

  • Mechanical, plumbing and electrical processes & principles
  • Safe work practices

Skill in:

  • Oral communication

  • Mathematics, such as addition and subtraction of fractions and decimals
  • Use of drills, saws, hand tools, air tools, “o” ring picks, CPVC pipe fitting, and welding equipment

Ability to:

  • Read and understand installation and maintenance materials
  • Work out-of-doors
  • Read P&ID’s
  • Be part of the Emergency Response Team
  • Wear required safety equipment
  • Provide quick reaction or immediate response to required situations
  • Cooperate and get along with co-workers and customer representatives
  • Determine the functional interrelationships of parts within mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems
  • Complete preventive and corrective maintenance of rotating equipment (pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, fans, turbines, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Trouble shoot and repair industrial electrical control systems

Work environment:

  • Excessive Noise
  • Extreme Hot and Cold Temperatures
  • Vibrations
  • Different Atmospheric Conditions that depend on specific area to be worked in

Worker may be exposed to:

  • Hazardous materials, Bleach, caustic, HCl and chlorine gas
  • Outdoor weather conditions, working in the yard, and from heights
  • Work irregular hours, swing shifts, Day and Night Shifts with 12-hour shifts

Physical demands:

  • Standing

  • Lifting regularly

Travel required:

  • Travel to other plants may be required based on business needs

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two to five years’ experience in maintenance at a Company plant or warehouse Preferred
  • Proven proficiency in MIG, TIG, or Stick welding within an industrial environment is required; candidates must possess a valid welding certification and demonstrate their skills by passing a hands-on welding gate test upon hire Required
  • Two to five years’ experience with Industrial electrical systems Preferred
  • Ability to work overtime & a rotating schedule (additional hours, holidays and weekends based on business needs) Required
  • Pre-employment testing, drug screen and physical exam Required
  • Must be able to physically maneuver up to 50 lbs independently and 100 lbs with assistance (e.g., a two-person lift or mechanical aid) Required
  • Reliable transportation
  • Proven experience in maintenance is required. A relevant degree or industry-recognized certification may be considered in place of a portion of the required experience
  • Stable employment history Required

Additional Preferred Experience

  • 5 years of experience in maintenance
  • Experience working in a PSM and RMP facility
  • Experience in applying industry RAGAGEPs – Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (Chlorine Institute, API, NACE, ISA, ANSI, ASTM, NFPA, etc.)
