Job Description

Repair and maintain site’s buildings, grounds, systems and equipment according to established preventative maintenance schedules and troubleshooting practices.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and monitors the following systems: HVAC units, alarms, fire suppression, lawn sprinkler, lighting and piping
  • Monitors the performance or the heating system and manually controls the system pneumatics for proper operation during transitional climatic periods
  • Performs a variety of field maintenance tasks including carpentry, electrical repairs, plumbing repairs, dry wall repairs, painting, floor finishing, carpet care, landscaping, and vehicle maintenance
  • Responds to building emergencies when requested, coordinates activities with other responders, and directs the efforts to return the building to a safe and secure state
  • Inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications and standards
  • Maintains logs and records of work performed, materials used, and equipment used
  • Inspects and maintains a variety of power and hand tools to insure that they are in safe and working order
  • Insures compliance with all City, State, Federal, and Salvation Army building codes, procedures and policies

Qualifications:

  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team and individual setting
  • TB test and police clearance
  • Authorization to work in the United States

Education/Experience:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years or more of maintenance experience

Computer Skills:

  • Basic computer skills required

Reasoning Ability:

  • Possess an excellent working knowledge of The Harbor Light policies and procedures
  • Understand and work within The Salvation Army and Harbor Light Mission Statements

Certificates and Licenses:

  • None required

Physical Demands

  • Capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and moving objects of weights between 20 and 50 pounds
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, mop, kneel, and stand for long periods of time
  • Frequent solo and group lifting and moving of furniture, office and medical equipment
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks using manual and power tools

Work Environment:

  • Ability to adapt to rapid temperature changes and work in temperature extremes, both hot and cold
  • Exposure to cleaning chemical fumes, dust, airborne eye, ear, nose, and throat irritants
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and biohazards
  • Ability to work in confined spaces

      • The accrual rate is based upon years of service and approved hours worked.
