WHO YOU ARE

Our Maintenance Technician Level 3 installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, pipe and electrical systems in facility for the production of lawn and garden tools. Strong skills for hydraulics, fabrication, millwright and electrical are required.

WHERE YOU WILL WORK

Our distribution center is located in Carlisle, PA.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspects and tests machinery and equipment for proper operation, wear and repair requirements

Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine

Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts

Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery

Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment (understanding schematics and symbols)

Read / understand blueprints

Performs general tasks on heavy mechanical installations and repairs

Ability to prioritize maintenance issues working in a rapid paced environment

Completes work orders by priority to ensure efficient operations

Work and communicate in a professional manner with all business associates

Maintain a clean and organized work area

Follow the required standard work and achieve the published standard work goals

Work and communicate in a professional manner with all business associates

Follow all Ames Companies Policies and Procedures

Initiates and participates in continuous improvement through cost savings, kaizen or other related activities

Follow all safety policies & procedures; including, but not limited to wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE)

REQUIREMENTS

Previous experience in general maintenance and equipment repair

Knowledge of Industrial Maintenance disciplines

Lock-Out/Tag-Out certification

Pass and maintain current industrial fork lift & man lift certifications

Pass and maintain NFPA 70E

Electrical Building Maintenance

Pass and maintain First Aid/CPR certification

Electrical certifications for 240V and 480V

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must possess strong basic shop math skills

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Basic computer skills with internet experience

Strong mechanical aptitude/ability with working knowledge of production equipment, pneumatic and electrical power and controls.

Knowledge of TPM methodologies and procedures

Knowledge of Lean Principles, QDC, 5S and Continuous Improvement Process

ENVIRONMENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand on concrete floor with/without floor mats; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms (which may include above and/or below shoulders); bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to use left and/or right hand for simple grasping; fine work, pushing/pulling and low speed assembly. The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally life and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
