Job Description

As a Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for machine operation and performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks in order to ensure the efficient operation of machinery, equipment, and facilities. The role requires a robust technical aptitude and the ability to work individually or as part of a team. There are three levels of skillset in this position, each with varying degrees of expertise and responsibilities. This job description is for Maintenance Technician I.

HOURS: 6:30 am - 7:00 pm | Rotating schedule

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function.

As a Maintenance Technician I, your primary responsibility will be to operate and assist in the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities within the organization.

  • Perform basic maintenance tasks under supervision or guidance.
  • Conduct routine inspections and identify potential issues.
  • Assist in repairing and replacing faulty components, such as switches, motors, or belts.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance tasks, such as lubricating machinery and equipment.
  • Operate the machines related to production.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Document maintenance activities and maintain records.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and regularly clean work area, machines, and equipment.
  • Identify and contribute to continuous improvement efforts to reduce costs or increase productivity without reducing effectiveness.
  • Maintain an open and candid working relationship with immediate supervisor/manager in discussing matters of importance.
  • Adhere to established company values, practices, policies, and procedures at all times. Follow and support compliance with all applicable safety rules, laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance at the assigned work location.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

An individual qualified for this job must be able to:

  • Demonstrate functional and technical knowledge of typical mechanical and electrical components used in a manufacturing environment in order to assess viability of alternate components.
  • Possess physical strength necessary to move and lift heavy materials.
  • Safely operate powered industrial trucks (e.g., forklifts, high lift trucks) and other motorized equipment.
  • Wear/use required PPE (personal protective equipment).
  • Accurately multiply, divide, add, and subtract whole numbers to resolve practical problems.
  • Understand written instruction and complete appropriate documentation as directed.
  • Logical approach to troubleshooting issues and prioritizing production needs.
  • Excellent problem solving capabilities and ability to identify problems immediately and resolve matters quickly and effectively.
  • Pay attention to details and pursue quality in accomplishing work duties and tasks. Look for opportunities to reduce costs or increase productivity without reducing effectiveness.
  • Handle challenges skillfully, thoroughly, and effectively.
  • Effectively and professionally communicate with co-workers, team members, and internal or external customers. Present information clearly and accurately.
  • Independently take advantage of opportunities to improve or increase skills, abilities and job knowledge.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS

An individual qualified for this job must have and maintain the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools commonly used in maintenance work.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Good communication skills to effectively interact with team members and report maintenance issues.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks that may involve lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to prioritize and complete maintenance tasks efficiently.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally climb stairs to retrieve stock items.
  • Ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment.
  • Repetitive grasping with hands.
  • Walking and/or standing up to 10-12 hours per day, 6 days per week if applicable.
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, and reaching following recommended standards.

ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS

The environmental conditions described here are representative of those the associate encounters while performing the Essential Functions of the job.

  • The individual will be expected to work in a manufacturing plant environment, which may include being exposed to work in high, precarious, and confined spaces, outdoor weather conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, and extreme heat. Typical noise level is loud. The individual may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
