Job Description

To take the actions necessary to make minor repairs, execute work orders, perform preventive maintenance and other duties as assigned to care for the facility. Procedures will be accomplished in accordance with department policies and procedures and operating manuals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Performs minor preventive and corrective maintenance in one or more of the following areas:

  • Minor Construction
  • Electrical
  • Painting
  • General Maintenance
  • Plumbing
  • Grounds
  • Assists others with repairs and projects as assigned. i.e snow removal, operating sweeper truck, etc.
  • Utilizes blue prints and manuals in the performance of maintenance work. Interprets written instruction, sketches and plans.
  • Knows and observes safe working procedures.
  • Maintains assigned mechanical rooms and work areas. Maintains a neat and safe work area.
  • Inventories and maintains stocking of material in an orderly fashion.
  • Evaluates and recommends orders for parts or materials needed.
  • Accurately and timely fills out work summary sheet, log book, equipment log sheets.
  • Participates in and fosters an approach to continuously improving quality that includes both intradepartmental and interdepartmental activities.
  • In case of fire, internal or external disaster, perform assigned duties.
  • Uses good communication and human relation skills when dealing with co-workers, other departments and the public.
  • Maintain a high standard of personal appearance.
  • Perform other tasks or assignments as directed by the Manager.
  • Participate in all department training.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:

It is highly recommended that the individual have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to speak and understand English is highly recommended, however other languages may be used with adequate interpreters available.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in liquid units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems related to the job. Ability to follow both written and oral instructions from managers and supervisors. Must be able to demonstrate correct use of chemicals, supplies and tools assigned. Must be able to operate mechanical equipment, once trained, and detect equipment malfunctions.
